So….my updated Xmas wish list:

Sign:

Tucker
Diaz
Bichette
Suarez
Bassitt
Scherzer

Trade for IFA money :

Berrios
Santander
Rodriguez

Load up on starters and closers. And anyone not in the rotation pitches in the bullpen. :)

He is a solid, quality, OF. I think generally though, this is a FA class that doesn't have any really 'gotta have them' players, since we locked up Vladdy. There's no Ohtani, no Soto - it's the first in a few with no record-setting FAs.

But Tucker feels like the best of the bunch.

I don't know about his defence. His bat plays well.

Well he’s far better than Bichette, I think I’d take him

He’s probably also 2x the cost. Which will have some impact on other acquisitions - at some point

But if we sign tucker it'll likely mean Varsho gone either via trade, or we just won't resign him, so that's like a double bonus! No?

Does it? Post-2026 when Springer retires, it would give us an OF of Varsho, Tucker, and one of Barger/Loperfido/Schneider, barring any other additions.

They value Varsho's CF defense too much.

Santander super pinch hitter

Mr. Barger is here to stay

Don't know how realistic it is, but signing Tucker would likely mean the end of Bo. But it opens up possibility of moving Varsho and Berrios (who is already on the block). The jays will likely need to shed some salary if they sign Tucker and get a 2B/SS.

Maybe they engage the D'Backs in a Varsho + Berrios for Marte swap. Gimenez/Santander have no value and can't be moved. Jays won't trade Springer after last year. Lukes doesn't have much value but also doesn't make all that much.

Springer barely plays the outfield now, so him retiring post 2026 is going to change much.

Really, it comes to contract value - I doubt they want to sign Varsho to 20 mill+ deal over multiple years, if your paying one of your outfielders 30+ mill

It'll be tucker/Barger and either Loperfido/Schneider as platoon or maybe Santander in a pinch in 2027.

Part of Kyle value is that he played CF, it's like when played Varsho in LF, we weren't maximizing his value until he played CF.

Not a big fan of Ponce's deal. Don't have issue with the $$ for one year. But 3 years seems excessive. Should have built it as a 1 + 1 or 2 + 1 with backloading the 3rd year.

Springer retiring after 2026 allows us to move Santander to DH, which frees up an outfield spot.

But yes, it comes down to contract value. I dont' think that Varsho is going to need a 100/5 to keep as a Jay. Not unless he absolutely explodes in 2026 (in which case, that's a whole other conversation)

Varsho will be 30/31 in what would be the first year of his next contract. Signing Tucker and finding another CF for 2027-beyond wouldn't be a bad option. It would definitely be a short term downgrade most likely, but they'll need to have minimum earning guys at some positions if they have Vlad, Kirk, Gimenez, Santander, Tucker, etc, on FA type deals. Can't have every player making $10-20-30M+.

Don’t know if it’s just on their Canada app but bet365 has taken off all their player prediction landing spot bets except for Bo.

Maybe too much stuff starting to leak?

This is all so wrong…

Kyle Tucker has never been a regular MLB CFer. The most he has ever played in CF in one season is ….4 Lmao. They definitely dont need to pkay him in CF to maximize his value like they dir with Varsho. What is true.. the guy has never posted a season with an OPS under .800, he runs well enough to steal bases, and his OBP over the last 3 years combined is around .380.

Also, without a full season of what we saw Varsho do this year at the dish in 2026, he “should” have less value on the open market than KK had. But that is irrelevant. If Tucker is brought in, it likely means the end of Lukes…( and Schneider if they dont trade Santander. ) Each could have value in a trade now though.

They probably should look to replace Varsho, but not because they will need to play Tucker there.

Schneider I could see. But Lukes and Straw likely backup at OF no? Barger would pivot to 3rd, Clement to 2B and Santander would spend time at the DH.

My guess is they'd keep Lukes and Straw as OF guys.
