Nick Sirianni Calls Idea Of Eagles Benching Jalen Hurts \'Ridiculous\'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Dec 10, 2025 3:32 pm

Nick Sirianni dismissed questions about benching quarterback Jalen Hurts following the Philadelphia Eagles\' overtime loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, calling such speculation \"ridiculous\" during his weekly radio appearance on 94 WIP. Hurts threw four interceptions and committed five total turnovers in the 22-19 defeat, but Sirianni reaffirmed his confidence in the reigning Super Bowl MVP.

\"I know every time I go out on that field with Jalen Hurts as our quarterback, we have a chance to win the game,\" Sirianni said Wednesday. He emphasized football\'s team-oriented nature, noting Philadelphia\'s 54-25 regular-season record with Hurts as starter.

Hurts\' five giveaways tied for the most by an Eagles player since 1978, matching Donovan McNabb\'s rookie performance in 1999. He became the first Eagles quarterback with four interceptions in a game since Michael Vick in 2012 and the first NFL player with zero touchdowns and five turnovers since Justin Fields in 2021.

The performance extended a troubling two-game stretch during which Hurts has committed seven total turnovers. His six interceptions this season already surpass his 2024 total of five.

Saquon Barkley expressed unwavering confidence in Hurts despite the struggles.

\"When we have the ball in overtime and I\'ve got Jalen Hurts as my quarterback, I have all the confidence that we\'re going to win the football game,\" Barkley said. \"Sometimes, it just doesn\'t work.\"

Wide receiver A.J. Brown also accepted responsibility, acknowledging his dropped pass led to one interception. Hurts himself took accountability postgame for the five-turnover performance.

The Eagles (8-5) have dropped three consecutive games while averaging just 16 points over their past five contests. Philadelphia hosts the 2-11 Raiders on Sunday with Sirianni remaining optimistic despite increased offensive involvement last week.

Backup quarterback Tanner McKee, a 2023 sixth-round pick from Stanford, posted solid numbers in his lone career start last season against the Giants, completing 27-of-41 passes for 269 yards with two touchdowns.
