So... Hawks, Pistons and Raptors are emerging as potential targets for AD. Klay is also on the trading block, he wants to go to a contender and they'll be looking to trade DLo as well. But he's more or less probably a negative value even with his low contract.

Coop will be 24/25yo at that point already and if you start focusing on drafting at that point you're screwed anyway. You can't even make good trades until that point without picks being involved.
As soon as Mavs landed nr1 pick, every possible outside NBA expert with a brain, knew what Mavs have to do this season, specially if AD experiment fails. And we all see he's not good enough to win you a title anymore and who knows when Kyrie comes back and how good he'll still even be.
Nba draft is always top heavy, this year is no difference. We have to be really bad and unlucky, to get into top 3 or at least top 5, for a real game changer.

Well they'll have to come up with something quickly since Rich Paul told Mavs to either trade AD or sign him to an extension in the off season. I think we know which one is a better option.

Maverick41 wrote:If ATL is interested like rumored, what do we think of the possibility of part of the trade being swap rights on the 26 FRP? This way we get the most favorable of our own, MIL or NOP. It gives us the best chance at getting a really good pick. Something like the following:
DAL receives: KP + Kennard + Asa Newell + 26 FRP swap (most favorable of DAL, MIL & NOP)
ATL receives: AD + D'Lo + 26 FRP Swap (2nd most favorable of DAL, MIL & NOP)
In this way, DAL gets 2 expirings, a solid prospect in Newell and having a very high chance at a top 3 pick instead of relying on the ping pong gods. We can then draft BPA with guys like Boozer, Dybansta, Peterson, etc. potentially being our draft pick.
ATL catapults to contender status in the East. They still will likely end up with a top 10 pick too. If MIL trades Giannis, it might even be top 5 too.
If AD is traded it will be for something like this I’d imagine. The most likely teams to be interested are the top East teams (not Cleveland). ATL, NY, CHI, and Miami could all be interested. The West teams that miss out on Giannis could also be interested in a trade for AD.

If I am the GM, I will just tell AD and Rich Paul. Here is what we are now, we have the vets in Klay and KI, we have future superstar in Flagg, we have you ex-Laker-mates in Max and DLo, we have C and other reasonable supporting cast. We are in a good position, and if you play hard and play well, we may win big, or at least plenty of teams will be interested on you. It is win win for everyone.

Mark Cuban doesn't like Rich Paul the way Nico did. He'll trade AD instead of signing him to an extension.

Not anything on TOR I'd be interested in. But DET and ATL are both super interesting

Well.. he basically proved to you that Mavs don't control their 1st round draft picks until 2031 and either can they trade them. So yeah, a very bad situation. Those assets were dealt to build a team around Doncic, which they basically succeeded but then Nico went full r****d.

I was listening to one of the Mavs podcasts this morning and they were going over all of the potential trades (as far as the current rumors) and they mentioned that a trade can’t be done straight up between Toronto and Dallas because there is no way to make salaries match. They would HAVE to get a 3rd team involved.
The most intriguing trade prospect might be the Pistons. Pistons could make this trade without having to give up Cade, Thompson, Stewart or Duren. They could possibly even keep Ivey. It wouldn’t be the best package for the Mavs but it would get the Mavs multiple 1st round picks (including in 2026) and major salary cap relief with Tobias Harris and Caris Levert coming back to Dallas.
Atlanta is the other team they discussed that could land the Mavs multiple 1st round picks and salary cap relief with KP and Luke Kennard coming back to Dallas. There is a possibility Dallas could then flip KP for another draft pick or young player.

Looks to me that shows the Mavs do have draft picks between now and 2031 they just can’t trade them. So it’s not like they won’t be getting more young talent they just can’t trade the pick. They can however trade the player they draft (during the draft).

It's not that simple.
2027 Mavs need to land nr1 or nr2 pick to keep their pick. What are the odds of that? Otherwise CHA gets the pick.
2028 They'll get OKC's nr30 pick. Not exactly ideal spot to be in.
2029 Pick swap with HOU... But they do have LAL's pick, which again, probably will be in the low 20's. Not ideal.
2030 Goes to SAS via swap. What are the chances that Spurs are bottom 5 teams at that point? Again, probably very low.
At the end of the day, none of this means that Mavs control their own picks.

Is Mitchell Robinson, Pacome Dadiet, and the Knicks 2026 1st round pick (or the Washington pick that turns into tow early second rounders) enough for PJ Washington?
Could add additional second round picks, but the 1st rounders are limited.

Wonder how much of that was last years miss management of his initial injury. Nico's staff was always rushing everyone back.

PJ can't be traded this season.
