Re: Shams: Raps one of teams to pursue Anthony Davis
The rumours must be coming out of Dallas, hoping that someone is dumb enough to take his albatross of a contract on.
The guy is basically an injury waiting to happen every year, not to mention he's on the downslope of his career that will likely end earlier than expected due to physical limitations. I expect he's retired in 3 or 4 more years, which is a damn good career, but coming up fast.
Aside from all that, his fit within the Raps is suspect at best. Assuming you hold on to Barnes and Ingram, how does that front court even work?
Just a bad idea all around.

I've got a belt on that's holding up my pants and my pants have belt loops that hold up my belt. I don't know what's really happening down there. Who is the real hero? - Mitch Hedberg

Yup was thinking this.
I’m ready to package Poeltl for AD.
At least we’ll get out of that abysmal contract.
The problem is that AD's camp wouldn't want any trade that's not extending him @ 4/275 or so, so you are going from a terrible contract to an abysmal one - no thanks.

Re: Shams: Raps one of teams to pursue Anthony Davis
Will Lou basically said he would do an AD trade for the Raptors if Poeltl's contract is part of it, in his react pod for yesterday's game.
He also threw out an oddly specific framework that he thinks the Raptors would have to consider.
Poeltl
RJ
1 of Ja'Kobe/Gradey
1 FRP
Considering how plugged in he seems to be with Bobby, and this oddly specific proposal only has 1 FRP in it (a Masai/Bobby special as this FO has yet to move multiple FRPs in 1 trade), I have a gut feeling Bobby would actually pull the trigger something like this.
Although the Mavs are reportedly looking for and valuing draft capital in an AD trade, so I doubt just 1 FRP cuts it for them at the moment.

All that for a 33 year old rental? . he likely bolts as soon as he can... but if we could unload IQ and Yak?... lol
Davis
Barnes
Ingram
Barrett
? , Shead
I would be in ... in
But I would much rather roll the dice for Giannis, lol if we made his short list.(doubtful).

There's the rub and I bet that is why Klutch is likely the one pushing for a trade. They want to hold the next team hostage for an extension, which he is eligible for in August. I don't think any team wants to be paying AD the max in 2030-31 when he turns 38 during that season. You can just light that 275M on fire and it would be the same thing.
Even if his camp agrees to not discuss an extension at this time, you can bet Rich Paul will start hounding said team the minute he's eligible for one. It would not surprise me to see AD gut it out for the rest of this season specifically for that purpose. Recent examples of doing this were Kawhi and PG13. The ink was barely dry on their new contracts before they started missing tons of time again due to injury.

Re: Shams: Raps one of teams to pursue Anthony Davis
It’s so classic seeing the typical posters crap on the idea of a Davis trade. They either want to get him for a bag of popcorn if not it is a bad deal. These were also the same people that crapped on the Ingram deal.
This team needs a Big upgrade and the answer is simple.
Superstars cost a hell lock of assets and money. So playing Debbie downer on every deal just doesn’t result in any improved outcome.
Davis’ health is a concern but the dude is a beast when healthy. So you weigh the pros and cons, but look at it this way if he is healthy you have a chance to compete. You don’t get him you have no chance to compete.
The raps need a consolidation trade Giannis works as well too, but will cost double. People will also crap on the idea that it is giving up too much and his age.
So don’t know how to help some of you folks, but seems like you prefer just a middle of the pack team that just banks on draft lottery luck.

Re: Shams: Raps one of teams to pursue Anthony Davis
AD is definitely a risk but it depends on what the cost is. If multiple picks is required, forget it but I don't think he fetches close to that.
For example IQ + Yak works salary wise, both of them overpaid and have longer term than AD.
So the FO may look at this as increasing our talent level when AD is healthy and/or dumping salary if they don't extend AD.
The issue is we wouldn't have a starting PG, and Shead may not be ready for that. We'd also have two injury prone players in AD/Injgram but then again Yak looks like he may be heading that way too.

I'd be fine giving that up. Given how old and injury-prone AD is, I don't think teams will be breaking the bank to acquire him.

Gents I guarantee your perception of Jak is recency bias.
I believe in Masai.

If IQ and Poeltl are going out, get them to include Russell in exchange for Dick.
I'm no fan of D'Lo but at least he's a body there that can handle the ball and stretch the floor.

First off, I like will Lou. He’s no more plugged in than any of the raps media. They run a tight ship. Anything shared is something they want you to know.
Anyway, will Lou saying they would do the trade if Jak’s contract in it is moot. Unless they trade Scottie or BI they require Jak’s contract to get a max player.
As for RJ vs. IQ, I vote IQ.
I believe in Masai.

Its probably AD filler for IQ, RJ and stuff
We gotta get rid of Poeltl somehow before his extension kicks in.
His cap hit is only 18mil right now. It'll be 27mil next year and damn near impossible to trade him.
Have you considered that the cap is rising and by percentage of the cap he effectively stays the same? The only reason we would move Jak would be in aggregate where we get a better big back.
The history of non-all star centers remaining starting level players past the age of 32 is extremely poor. Any age related decline (or increased injuries) probably knocks Poeltl out of the top 25 centers.
If Poeltl suffers any slippage at all over the next 2-3 years he’s not going to be worth his contract.

Bobby doesn’t seem to be the biggest fan of RJ.
I think he’ll offer up RJ + Poeltl for AD.

Issue: if you’re the Mavs why would you want Poeltl? They still have Lively and Gafford on the team. They don’t control their draft outside of this year so they’re probably going to have to go the free agency route. Why would they want to saddle themselves with Poeltl’s contract?

I feel like any deal including RJ and a FRP is an overpay.....for an injury prone player that isn't even built to play the center position. As soon as he goes down Raptors become a full-on tanking level team.
