I think his percentages need to come up over the course of the season to be draftable. Even then, he'd be on the bubble. He has stood out as a competent college guard to me but I haven't watched him and felt strongly that he is an NBA prospect. I could obviously be wrong when we get to the end of the season, and I've only watched Kansas 3x.

Anyone can get drafted so sure there's a chance. He had a magical shooting game but unless that suddenly indicates an up tick in his skill trajectory just hard to see a great case for spending a draft pick on a guy who will be 24 on Draft Night and has never shot the ball.

Offensive role: Primary Playmaker/Connector
Defensive role: Off-Ball Disruptor/Hidden
NBA Comparison: Tony Parker, Mike Conley

We compared Philon to Mike Conley and Lonzo Ball last cycle, envisioning a productive, complementary ceiling in spite of his physical limitations. Athletic and skill progression from Philon has altered his projection slightly. He’d still fit well as a connective guard living off of secondary attacking, but he’s playing like a primary perimeter advantage creator, similar in electric speed and manipulation (and lacking in vertical pop) like Parker.

Strengths
  • Blinding speed and smooth change of direction render him nearly impossible to keep out of the paint
  • Added core and lower body strength for improved drive stability, much more comfortable this season probing and taking contact in the paint, playing off two feet more often as well
  • Highly manipulative player who weaponizes eyes/body language/pace with the ball to open windows and create shots
  • Vastly improved 3-point shooter as a sophomore, especially off the dribble, big jumps in volume, efficiency and shot versatility
  • Quick, accurate hands to jar out loose handles defending the ball or as a helper on digs and stunts

Weaknesses
  • Still-slight frame limits effectiveness on defense, easily blown off the ball by sturdy picks
  • Easy for even average strength dribblers to muscle him backwards and generate paint touches
  • Lack of strength limits force generation downhill at contact points, limited vertical explosion to finish in traffic
  • Tight-window interior passing vision still inconsistent, will make absurd plays in some moments and miss easy reads in others

2026 NBA Draft Projection: Round 1, Pick 5-10
Philon graduated into true lead guard territory as a sophomore, answering key questions regarding his core strength, stability on drives and outside shooting. While he’s still well suited to help a team as a complementary offensive player, he has enough creation juice to consider him an enticing primary initiator prospect down the line.

I think Philon is getting dramatically overrated if we are seriously saying he could go top 5. I wouldn't want to take him top 10, either.

I have him around 7-10 in my recent mocks on my site. Glad to see i'm not the only one going crazy with valuing him that high.

I remember vehemently hating how overrated Bouknight got. I had him 21 or 22 that year.

Same, but I was way more baffled by the Kai Jones hype. People were going bananas over videos where it would start out with him doing straight line drives into dunks on an empty court and then would finish with him bricking 10 straight spot up 3s (also empty gym). The dude didn't even start on his NCAA team as a sophomore.

I'm a Charlotte fan who was all in on Sengun and Charlotte ended up drafting Bouknight and Kai lol. Was the most unpleasant draft experience since the Hornets drafted Frank Kaminsky.

I'm not a huge fan of this draft so honestly, so Philon going this high wouldn't surprise me.

The top is obviously better overall than recent years but after that it feels like there's a fairly steep drop off.

Next month games will be televised so maybe we can get a better read on him then.

Both of those huge scoring games came against 150th and 350th ranked defenses. Really need to see how he does in the conference play against legit opponents to get a better read on him. Has looked shaky against the few decent opponents he's faced so far.

Not seeing it elsewhere so probably not.

Anyone watch Killyan Toure? He is 6-3 with what appears to be a wingspan of infinity.

Really having a hard time seeing Henri Veesar not be a first round pick. Too many teams need another center (Charlotte, Toronto, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, the Lakers).

Couple YT draft guys talking him up.

Kid is like Cason Wallace with go go gadget arms.

Long ways to go on offense though.

I've been keeping an eye on centers for Denver since JV is probably gone after this year. He's my favorite of the Mara/Bidunga/Ngongba group that could be available at that point. He's probably played himself closer to 20 than 30 though.

I mean, he has some game to him for sure. But most importantly, he plays big and can grab a darn rebound.
