Really having a hard time seeing Henri Veesar not be a first round pick. Too many teams need another center (Charlotte, Toronto, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, the Lakers).

Veesar is one of those rare players that pass the eye test but not the box score test.

Specifically, his stocks are really low for an NBA-caliber big man. And his A:T is ok, but not great. And his shot doesn't look broken but I can't put a ton of weight on such low volume and bad FT%. But despite these concerns, he really does appear to move well and has some touch and good footwork. I for sure think he's an NBA prospect, and I really do enjoy watching him, just not sure he's a first round pick (yet). But maybe.

I've been keeping an eye on centers for Denver since JV is probably gone after this year. He's my favorite of the Mara/Bidunga/Ngongba group that could be available at that point. He's probably played himself closer to 20 than 30 though.

Keep an eye on Arizona's Krivas then as well Defensive anchor of the #2 defense in college. He should be available in the second round.

Watched Keaton Wagler for the first time yesterday. I'm impressed. Lights out 3 pt shooter with good length and pg skills.

Eh it's 1.8 TOs and he's a center, not really a playmaker. He can probably clean it up a bit (like keeping the ball high and avoid getting stripped), but for the most part very small sample too. Would be way more concerning if he was a guard who averaged 2 assists and 12 TOs a game

I have him on my radar for the second round. He is really aggressive on both ends, often to his detriment, but he is big and reasonably athletic and clearly not afraid to do the dirty work. That sounds like a backup center a lot of teams would like to have.

Denver has exactly ZERO second round picks in the next 7 years. I might as well pretend the second round doesn't exist when it comes to my team.

It isn't the NBA's rule, so it really doesn't matter that Charlotte traded him.

Watched Arkansas again. I can't remember who it was comparing Acuff to Derrick Rose, but I do not see that at all.

I think if you want to squint to find a star guard to compare him to it is probably Brunson. I don't hate Acuff, but I don't see some clear starting point guard out of him. He has a bit of a weird body (narrow shoulders, but really stout) and I am not sure how tall he is. The shooting is nice, the decision-making is pretty good, he is strong and can get paint touches ... but it is not like he is some incredible above-the-rim athlete. He isn't as strong or as good at getting to the rim as someone like Isaiah Collier, but he is a lot more skilled with his in-between game and a better shooter. He kind of reminds me of Jameer Nelson with more size (so, presumably more efficient, like Nelson was in his athletic prime), who I always liked but who was never elite.

I do miss that archetype of player - the solid manager who is a very traditional point guard. We have kind of lost that because of how much size matters, but it seems slightly bigger players are coming in who have that skillset.

He’s playing on a team with a lot of talent, but he’s clearly the centerpiece. Stepped into the role Wolf played last season and expanded it with his superior athleticism.

I think he should go lottery, perhaps even top 10. You don’t pick him over the huge upside guys, of course, but he’s going to provide real value on his rookie contract. I do think going to a team that needs a do-it-all forward that’s already a contender makes the most sense, so the Spurs are a good fit. He might even be a starter fairly quickly.

Not sure that pick will get you there, though, unless Atlanta really implodes.

Sochan’s a cool, coachable, tall guy that doesn’t have enough actual basketball skills or instincts. As a rookie, you saw the rawness but could envision a path to being a good defender and acceptable offensive player. Just hasn’t happened. Yaxel’s clearly better and would help Wemby more. He even throws nice lobs. Just a really big skillset for a 6’9” guy.
