[Stein] - Hawks More Open To Trading Trae Young; Would Include Zaccharie Risacher In Right Deal

Post#1 » by Tor_Raps » Mon Dec 29, 2025 9:22 pm

I know Trae has been mentioned before but seems like the rumor mill is heating up for him. Like many other guys (AD, Sabonis, Ball, etc), you would be trying to get a player whose value is really low at the mlment in hopes they can return to their best similar to Ingram.

There are a lot of people who are questioning IQ and whether he's worth his contract and is even a PG. Trae is immensely more talented offensely but your team better be stacked defensively to make up for his shortcomings.

Is there any deal with the Hawks that intrigues you?

They started losing games as soon as he came back and can’t win anymore lol. He would instantly become the worst defender on the team including our 3rd stringers. Is his offense good enough to overcome that and who are we replacing? If we can get him to who he was from 2019-2023 he would be helpful.

They started losing games before he actually came back but he definitely hasn't helped them turn it around, which a player with his salary should lol.

They lost twice to Detroit, once to Denver and once to the Clippers during that stretch but did very well without him otherwise. There’s a reason why they’re ready to trade him.

He has the talent to be a good offensive player for sure, but this team is so bad defensively. It’s interesting for sure.

Wonder how much he’ll demand over the summer.
I expect him to opt out and become an UFA.

Trae is worst than IQ on defense but better offensively and overall. Issue with trading for Trae is he may opt out and leave in FA. Also no lob threat in TO to help with Trae's game.
Strictly salary wise, maybe IQ + RJ for Trae + Risacher depending on how much FO wants to keep RJ and like Risacher. It gets us just under the tax.

Sounds like the Hawks are trying to get AD from the Mavs, but the Mavs don't want Trae. Trae is better than IQ but will also be paid a lot more.

It was a couple years ago I spent several weeks arguing with folks that Trae would eventually get traded then end up on a team other than the one who traded for him where he would then become a super sixth man. He’s well on the way to that destiny.

Anyway, I’ll take Risacher but keep Trae away. Very difficult to win with a guy who can’t defend at all and never will be able to because he’s 160 lbs.
not strong, only aggresive cuz the power ain't directed/ that's why, we are subjected to the will of the oppressive

He's a better passer for sure, but IQ is a better shooter and defender.

Can't win with a player like Young he's too small and weak for switches. His career might actually end up being over in the NBA. He's a massive disadvantage, it's crazy how this wasn't uncovered sooner.

Trae at his best has a vertical lob option in the starting lineup. We don't have that.

His value is lower than usual but don't think the Raps look to aquire then sign him, a la BI.

I would trade for Trae just to get an expiring contract. I would not resign him.

Kind.of a backwards move for us. I would rather the Raptors improve the defense, not make it worse.

If he waa an expiring this season, I would be tempted to try him out, but I fear that he will opt in.

Talks of OKC joining in to land Risacher, using some of their draft capital.

Atlanta would then move those picks to Dallas for AD.

his #1 pick contract is way too risky for what he actually provides on the floor

he would likely opt into his large player option. If we did trade for him, expect an extension announcement like we did with Ingram.

Very intriguing. Definitely a buy low opportunity. I'd really want to get to the bottom of why his offense has dropped off by so much in the last two seasons... at his best he's an All NBA talent. He wouldn't the greatest fit next to BI as they're both ball dominant guys. On the other hand, Trea and Scottie duo looks great on paper.

I'm not a fan of Trae Young and his inefficient style of play, lack of defense, and untimely shots. I'd rather wait for better options to emerge than go after Trae. TBH, I don't want AD, Trae, or Sabonis, but I'd rather Sabonis if we had to - if that makes any sense.
