I think we pay the tax if we think it makes us championship contenders.

We are already above the tax with the current lineup, how do you justify us being a championship contender now and add more to the tax?

Furthermore, three near-max plus a starter salary would be close to 100 percent, just 4 of your starters, are you not going to criticize the bench when they are mainly minimum? So we want to go 30 percent over the tax when other championship teams are way below that?

I don’t really care about the tax as long as we win. A better way to think about it is are we repeaters and have we hit the apron and are we hard capped. We are none of those things, but we may become those things if we become contenders.

Another way to think about it is if we get rid of Ochai/Temple/Gradey and IQ we get a max player. Next year we have 3x picks in the draft. Seems to work out quite nicely.

That said, we likely aren’t a tax team this year and the trades I’ve been proposing generally get us under the tax line. We are about half a mil over and have a lot of time to rectify that yet. For all intents and purposes we are not a tax team this year.

great win tho

I’ve been saying this for years!

Why do we have announcers?

I’d like an option where it’s just bball without 2 guys chirpin the whole damn time. It’s insulting, infuriating and unnecessary.

Pretty sure there’s a mute button? But if you’re wanting that experience going to the game in person is the best option.

People on this board are the type of people to tell their guests to be quiet when they watch a game together

What could Darko do better other than not playing scrubs?

Darko has never demonstrated the ability to maximize the talent of any player.

That’s a very hot take, and objectively incorrect. You do you though.

I'm not so sure about that. The lineup construction is clearly flawed, they need a big C that does the dirty work and a PG that can organize the offense and go downhill. When they miss one of these elements or both (Poeltl injured and IQ struggling) they can lose to anyone.

Pretty well this. There’s a lot of synergy between Jak and IQ. IQ doesn’t really blow by people so Jak’s screens are super helpful. Jak is also a solid release and pick and roll
threat and passes from PG to big are usually lower risk.

When two or three starters are out we lose more than we win. Pretty simple.

I guess if you ignore the guys having their best years under Darko you could believe that.

There’s really only a couple of things that annoy me about Darko… number 1 is not using quickley as a scorer and instead trying to expect him to facilitate the offense/“develop” him into a traditional pg. and 2, playing guys like gradey dick undeservedly. Now it’s arguable this decision is coming from the top, which in that case is a bobby webster problem. Other than that, I don’t really have any other issues.

I’m not a big fan of his rotations on account of what you suggested above (too much Gradey, not enough battle, forcing iq to handle instead of playing him primarily off ball). I’d also like to see more small ball 5 with Scottie and CMB both on the floor. Other than that I have no complaints. I like Darko.

Oh man, I literally did that recently. Fortunately it was me that was the guest and we were on neutral ground, not in either of our homes. Thankfully my cousin is a good sport and there were others around as a buffer.

If you don't really care about the tax, maybe you can just play NBA 2K and trade for the players you want to your team.

Building a team with luxury tax in mind is a reality constraint, as well as there are rules in trading, such as salary matching. And your comment on "we are not a tax team this year" contradicts your original goal "as long as we win", as we are most likely attaching assets, which may impact next season or more, depends on what we give up.

6 or 7 years ago.....it looked like this would be pretty eas going forward. It was trending towards all sports being mixed in 5.1 but someone decided it was too expensive to equip all the trucks with 5.1 capabilities. In anycase....you could take out the announcers simply by muting the center channel.

TSN was mixing all NHL and CFL games in 5.1 but around 6 years ago it all stopped. Never got to raptors though.

Pretty sure almost all the NFL games are in 5.1

Please read my post again.

I doubt we are a tax team this year unless we trade for a max player. Trades I personally proposed get us under the tax.

There is a difference between being a tax team and being a repeater and being hard capped. We are nowhere close to either of those possibilities right now.

We have paid the tax in past years in order to win a championship. I see no reason why that would change.

Oh that’s a cool concept and kudos for pointing it out. I wonder how well it applies in a faux 5.1 scenario. Eg. When your receiver/processor creates a surround sound option from a stereo source. I’m also wondering about whether the raptors nba league pass feed is in 5.1.

Regardless - good looking out and great point!

You failed to understand that trading for a max player like Ja Morant plus min contracts will put us over the tax, and we will be a repeater for paying three near-max players with another starting money.

He’s had plenty of good looks without poeltl. He’s just in his head/in a slump.

It’s so odd how on a team starved for shooting, they turn on their most proven and consistent shooter because he’s in a slump. Since a rookie his percentages from 3 are as follows: 39%, 34%, 40%, 37% and this year currently 36%…

That doesn’t take into account the types of shots he takes either. He’s not just a stand in the corner catch and shoot guy. He takes shots off the dribble, relocate catch and shoot on the move as well as being a stationary catch and shoot guy. He makes the difficult 3s, he’s not just a Jamison battle shooter. And that’s not a knock on battle.

Wide open 3pt% by year

35%
43%
44%
42%
34%
43%

He’s just missing shots he usually makes, and he’s shooting more wide open shots than ever in his career.

He’s bound for some huge progression

I’m still hopeful but I’d also be content if he was moved.

All depends on what the return would be.

He’s not a guy you see untouchable, but he’s also not a guy you actively look to move off of.

We’re also in a weird spot where if you move IQ the trade has to bring back a PG, so you’re really only moving him for upgrades. I don’t think there’s a PG realistically obtainable that you’re confident you’re better off with than IQ.

We are not repeaters. This would be the first year we’d be over the tax.

We would only trade for a max player if we think we would be championship contenders.
