RJ Barrett is on a $25 salary. Considering the impact he's had on this team he has the best contract. 2 years ago he was considered a toxic asset around the league, Now the stats favour him from all angles.

The next one is Sandro. He's due for a big pay day and maybe a starting position somewhere lol.

Also, whilst his impact is undeniable over this last stretch, the stats do not actually favor him from all angles. He is pretty anemic impact looks from DARKO, RAPM and LEBRON, doesn't look incredible in EPM, OWS, OBPM or VORP.

Again, I think it's pretty clear that he does good things for our team and his return made a very specific and obvious impact. But just strictly from how that was phrased, it isn't true. RJ's impact doesn't appear to be showing through on seasonal stats at the moment. He had a hot October, then has been below league-average efficiency since, and badly so in December. The missed time has actually helped his seasonal efficiency to date, and he's been killing it in terms of ball protection, but his actual passing output is down and he's only about +0.6% over league average efficiency on the season to date.

Again, I want to repeat that my eyes showed me how much better we seemed to play with him on the floor versus him without, but yeah. The stats do not favor him at all at the moment, even if we have been largely watching him get it done for us.

It would only allow me to list 10. Battle.doesn't get enought playing time.to say he has production value.

I don't disagree with you though

Do the stats favor Gradey over RJ?

Sure they can. Epecially in todays economic climate. If you are a winning team & your rookie is performing & helping you win, I would say you did a hell of job drafting a cheap, useful asset.

It was the reason I allowed people.to pick 6 rather than 2 or 3. CMB & Mamu are too obvious.

I agree in principle

But since Ochai and Dick are on rookie contracts and are overpaid, well….

Heavens, no. Not even close. Nor Walter, nor Agbaji, etc.

RJ is a net positive on O by the stats.

Now, we'll see what happens as the remainder of the season progresses, of course. His efficiency has come down a bunch from where it was earlier, and that's obviously hurting all of his impact numbers and everything. But that 8.7% TOV is pretty wild right now. That's some late-Chicago Jordan nonsense right there, especially for a guy handling any sort of consequential volume. That's really nice.

And of course, there are things like his 4th quarter against the Hornets and what he opens up for other guys and all that which require discussion any time we're on the subject of his impact.

But yeah, if we're throwing out "from all angles," then that's something else.

RAPM has him at -0.2 on O, DARKO has him at +0.4, LEBRON has him at +0.5. O-EPM has him at +1.3. WS/48 has him at .119, we have +1.2 OBPM, and +0.5 VORP.

That's where he's sitting at the moment in a wide selection of different stats. Now, a lot of that represents the best of his career (or the best other that his immediate post-trade stuff with us). He's +0.7% rTS, which is better than usual (58.8%, and lgav is 58.1% at this moment).

He's giving us 19.6 / 5.1 / 3.5 on 50.0 / 34.5 / 67.7.

So the 3pt shooting and the FT shooting have calmed down a bunch, maybe even a little slump-y, and that's taking the edge off of things. And compared to last year, the passing isn't quite in the same place, though he certainly hasn't had sticky hands. He is presently setting a career-high inside the arc at 59.0% 2P (apart from the 60.5% he shot after the trade), and is having the best season of his career to date in terms of turnovers.

So there's lots to like. I mentioned this in the game thread, but while he only shot 12/25 against Charlotte, he was 1/7 from 3. He was absolutely PUNISHING them inside the arc. And he gives up a lot of points (and thus, efficiency) at the FT line, unfortunately. But he's actually doing a lot of shot-making for us. He's "only" 3rd on the team in 2PM/g, but he's actually 4th on the team in 2FG%, behind only (in reverse order) Mamu, Poeltl and Battle. Barrett is taking 9.3 2PA/g. Mamu, 4.3. Poeltl, 6.0. Battle, 0.9.

So really, he's basically the best shot-maker on the team inside the arc, aside from all the spoon-fed interior stuff Poeltl gets, which is pretty impressive. And only Barnes and Ingram get more 2PA/g.

So again, he's DOING lots of cool stuff for us and I didn't mean for my post to bag on RJ at all. Just to note that the stats aren't really selling him right now because his 3P% and FT% have really flattened out a bunch and are undercutting his efficiency and all that.

I guess I was including last year of what I saw from Battle, otherwise, I would include CMB with his inconsistent playing time.

Can the people who voted for Poeltl let it be known so I can just block you and save everyone a bunch of trouble?

We are kind of screwed on the trade market as well because expiring contracts are now alot more valuable than mid tier players like Yak/IQ on long term big contract deals....We are stuck with these 2 and i think with this current team for a while....Don't think we have much to offer on the market and i would not give up draft picks to try and compete with this core of players...

Teams like Mavs/Hawks would give up their guy for even bad deals if it means getting off them contracts completly....

CMB/Mamu/RJ/Ingram/Barnes/Shead are the positive players/good contracts on the team.

RJ’s contract has turned out to be a good one. Mamu is underpaid for what he’s brought.

19.5M for a starting center?

I know the guys been hurt this year but god damn, can yall at least pretend to be rational about him

You can go into the thread when he signed and it’s a mostly positive response. Guy gets his first real injury since we got him (no, sitting for tanking doesn’t count) and somehow the entire script on him gets flipped.

FWIW - I don’t vote Jak anyways. But you guys are so dramatic about him and IQ

Walter is a still a good contract. $3M or whatever it is for a decent enough bench piece is a fine deal.
