19.5M for a starting center?

I know the guys been hurt this year but god damn, can yall at least pretend to be rational about him

You can go into the thread when he signed and it’s a mostly positive response. Guy gets his first real injury since we got him (no, sitting for tanking doesn’t count) and somehow the entire script on him gets flipped.

FWIW - I don’t vote Jak anyways. But you guys are so dramatic about him and IQ

Yaks deal is actually a pretty good one if he is healthy. He is a difference maker for this team.

Unfortunately he.has been injured so it might be unfair or inaccurate to vote for him.

BTW. I voted for him..Ban me please....put me out of my misery..........old yeller style.

For the life of me, I don't understand how anyone would find Shead's contract as anything other than a steal at $2m per.

RJ went from a toxic asset to a valued asset while under the same contract... gotta love it lol

We don't have short term memories. He isn't old and hasn't had a serious injury. Chances are he comes back and does what he usually does. Now that we've realized how good CMB is on defense they will probably use either him and Poeltl on the floor at all times. We already have 48 minutes of elite defense for around 25M?

Isn’t this your thread?

By your own performance per dollar standard, how has Poeltl returned top 6 value on the team this season?

The question isn't who has performed the best this season, the question is who has the best value contract. A player isn't on a bad contract just because he was held back by an injury for a third of a season. I'm not a huge fan of Poeltl (I generally don't like centers that can't shoot), but for his overall production and importance on his team his contract isn't bad at all.

That seems to be the way OP phrased it, between the title and post. This year’s team. Performance per dollar.

Poeltl’s 19M this year wouldn’t be bad, but he’s played so little it’s hard to pick him based on that.

His extension looks to be one of the worst contracts in the league, so you certainly can’t pick him based on that.

Before you do that, i advise you that you please read his contract before spouting nonsense. Its one thing not liking the guy, but another to straight up lie about his contract.

His extension is only bad, if he is actually done for good, which there is 0 indication for it.. A guy is allowed to be injured and heal it. Damn give the guy a break. Since he came to toronto he gets critized as if he were a superstar.

His production isn't exactly good neither. His defense or field goal at rim percentage isn't above average, nor his post defense being great due to his lack of wingspan. Meanwhile his finishing is good, but his range is limited. His passing makes up some of these issues offense, however, not having a good free throw percentage means you are hardly getting playing time at clutch time.

If you are not playing at clutch time, your value wouldn't be that great. You look at this list, and you might agree he is at the bottom half of the starting C list

I voted for Poeltl. I assume he'll be back healthy for the second half of the season.

Barnes would easily make more if he was an UFA without cap limits.

That’s alot of qualifiers.

Everyone would make more without cap limits. Look at baseball, all it takes is one team to overpay.

I was talking about player cap limits, not team cap limits. The best players would make even more while the others would make less. So no, not everyone would make more.

Barnes is easily outperforming his 38 million per.

I think anywhere for $38-45M would be the appropriate range for him in today’s landscape.

A third scoring option with top 10 defence.

Jakob is certainly an above average defender, IDK how you possibly can say he is not.

Lots of traditional centers don't play in crunch time. Teams go small all the time - this is not just a Poeltl thing.

But sure, he might on the bottom half of the starting C list... but he is also paid accordingly. $19.5M is a completely fair price tag for a bottom half starting C.

Performance per dollar doesn't mean just ignore years and years of productivity and only focus on what hes done while hurt.

Sure, his value in 2025-26 so far has been minimal, but that doesn't necessarily mean that is going to continue going forward.

I don't think he is better than Mobley. I think Barnes would make around the range of Sungen instead.
Not a C on defense, not a PF on offense. Claiming he is the 3rd option is overrated without a handle or 3 point shooting.
