too many moving parts on that flat jumper and I'm worried it'll be harder for him to become a great 3pt shooter. Elite everywhere else but that's a biggie. I can't put him above Peterson or Wilson but for now he's #3

Not saying anything about the talent level of Dybantsa but why is the guy who tweeted so surprised? That move is a textbook euro step, I used that regularly when playing youth and semi-pro basketball in the 00s. So it shouldn't be anything new to the basketball world, no?

He's not surprised because the move is new. He's suprised how a big 6'9 forward can do a eurostep almost from the 3 point line to the basket and cover so much ground with just a couple of hops.

I'm in the same boat. Scoring isn't everything, but in today's NBA, it kind of is. You always hear about needing that guy who can take over offensively in the playoffs. This is the kind of guy who can do that. Just draft him. He'll fit in anywhere.

If Peterson goes nuts I could see him being the first pick but as of today I am also taking AJ and I don't think it is very likely that changes.

AJ Dybantsa with NBA coaching will improve his 3pt shooting. Lebron was a ick 3-point shooter his rookie season. He improved his shooting from mid to long very quickly. It's always impressed me.

If you’re saying DP is “less unique” than AJ, I completely agree. But if you’re also saying “uniqueness” is some kind of leg up or requirement for a #1 overall pick, I disagree completely. You’ve just got to be great at what you do, and do important stuff.

Peterson looks like a great scorer and great defender. Maybe he’ll become a great playmaker instead of just a great shot creator, maybe he won’t. Kobe never really focused on playmaking either, and he was still an ATG. I’m not saying DP is gonna be Kobe, but that’s the kind of player he looks like, and the ceiling he’ll be reaching for. Not unique, it’s been done, but that doesn’t matter.

Dybantsa is potentially what, a bigger McGrady? Certainly not something we’ve seen, but I think he has further to go to reach his ceiling than Peterson, and is less likely to get there. I like a good swing for the fences pick as much as anyone, and there are perhaps teams that would be wise to pick AJ over Darryn, but, without any information about who is picking and what they already have, DP seems like the better pick to me. In numbers terms, I think he’s a floor 7 and ceiling 9, expected value 8. Dybantsa is like floor 5, ceiling 10, expected value 7.5. And yes, that’s just making up numbers that seem like they fit.
