Downgrading the current team on court or giving up a load of future assets to get off contracts makes zero sense unless you truly believe you are getting a very big upgrade. IQ and Yak’s contract might be not great but as long as Yak returns to health, the value will get better from here as the contracts get shorter. So you either get under the tax with a minimal trade like Ochai and maybe Gradey(whose contract increases to over 7 million next year) or you trade RJ if he is viewed by the other team as a positive asset and you can upgrade the fit and contract/flexibility going forward. To me, it is either upgrade RJ or trade Ochai and Gradey. Panic selling on Yak and IQ makes zero sense.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?
Please advise….

Thank goodness we still have our picks.
Interesting to note that other GMs see what fans see, have access to Google, have analytics, and do not want our problems, busts, or question marks. Who knew that GMs know stuff, more than fans? Who knew that making trades is hard because everyone knows everything?

Yeah it’s pretty crazy how much they ignore history. It’s actually quite fascinating. OKC was the definition of a treadmill team. Four straight first round exits and Presti wanted to run it back with Westbrook and George. Just think for a second how insane that is given how their careers have played out.
Kawhi can’t find a running mate so chooses George. George asks out of OKC, Clippers offer Presti all those picks plus SGA. Presti didn’t even need to negotiate. He took the initial offer.
We kept hearing how OKC would draft all these superstars. They didn’t draft a single one. Best players they got are Chet and Jalen Williams. Guess who else they drafted? Ousmane Dieng, Jaylen Williams, Josh Giddey, Cason Wallace, Poku. Also traded the pick that turned out to be Sengun.
Do I think Presti is a good GM? Of course he is. But there is no denying how lucky he got with SGA. Kawhi did more for OKC than Presti did. lol.
I think we can all agree that Masai did a much better job assembling his team.
This post was pretty reasonable and then you just end it with one of the most insane statements I’ve ever read on this board.
Well in fairness, it took Masai 6 years to win a Championship with Raps and it took Sam 18 years with OKC.
Sam Presti would not have rebuilt that team if it had not been for Kawhi Leonard. He had made a series of rather unimpressive moves and sideways trades to just tread water after losing Durant, for four years being a first round exit. If he was the GM here, he would have been strug up well before that, probably for losing Durant alone and extending Westbrook, but since he was forced to tank by getting the amazing end of a can't miss trade, now he's a genius instead. Go figure.

Too many crying posts about Sam Presti.
Masai is gone and fired, Bobby might join him sooner than later if he fails to upgrade on IQ/RJ or Poeltl in the next 2 years.
Presti will still have his team in contention, this shouldn’t be a debate anymore lol.

The league is a-lot smarter than what it was during the early Masai We The North days.
It’s why Masai stopped being able to fleece teams by like 2016.

Maybe we’re just the dumb team. Dumars was offering that trade to us too, we said no.

Were NOP also offering Ingram to us? Would have loved that trade.
Maybe the original statement is just dumb.

Nah, statement still holds. Masai is gone like I said he would be with how he handled this team the last 5 years. Presti finally got the ring you kept crying about him not having. It’s over.

Take a step back to get rid of bad money or hold tight and let cap hell downgrade the roster over time?
This is the quagmire Masai created and why he had to go.
Bobby's going to have to get creative and nail his draft picks.

You're the only one crying. I just made one post about what history really was, and your hypocritical level of patience. Well, not just yours.
Sure it still holds. Two quick examples amongst many mean nothing.

Poeltl: "top 10 centre" & "championship piece" narratives have been forgotten.
I'd note both Poeltl and Ingram were pending UFAs at time of their acquisition.

Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Ingram trade was a fleece.
Nobody wanted him, he chose us because we were the only team that would pay him.
Rich Paul’s words, not mine.
Would also be hard pressed to call it a fleece considering we gave up a top 5 pick in this draft by trading away the pacers pick.
The only team that really made out like bandits was the Pacers getting their own pick back.

I had to argue with many people on this board that Poeltl was nowhere near a top 10 Center.
Not a single team wanted Poeltl when the Spurs looking to trade him other than the Celtics who wanted him as their situational 2nd/3rd C behind Horford/Robert Williams.
There is a reason why he has never been a starter on a good team in his career.

Why was Presti able to fleece LAC then?
Masai fleeced teams but they still required good draft picks being made to make them worth it (Vasquez for picks).
Presti fleeced LAC and everyone knew it 15 minutes after the trade details broke. SGA becoming a superstar was the icing on the cake. But it wasn’t like SGA was some unknown. Doc Rivers even reportedly told Kawhi they shouldn’t be moving him

The newest extension was a head scratcher. We really didn't need to do that.
Unless there was internal conversations that were like “Jak, we want to lock our core up, if you’re not willing to extend were looking to make a trade with you”
I see everyone acting like the years for IQ and Jak are bad. I don’t necessarily agree with that nor do I think our FO necessarily agrees. I think they see value in continuity and keeping a group of guys together for 3-4 years and letting the internal growth take place.

People weren’t framing it as a fleece, that’s disingenuous.
People called it a steep package but understandable for peak Kawhi and peak Pg.
The vast majority of nba fans had the Clippers as the title favourite after the trade. Sam Presti just took advantage of a bad situation but the consensus wasn’t him fleecing the Clippers at the time.

Fleece maybe isn’t the right word but everyone knew OKC got an insane haul.
There were people who were like “wtf how do you give that much up for PG” and it was only justifiable once it was like “oh, that’s for Kawhi to or he wasn’t coming”. It was a weird situation where LAC paid fair price for PG + Kawhi, but OKC got all the compensation for only 1/2 the return
It was literally a once in a lifetime trade we probably won’t ever see again.
