Masai fleeced teams but they still required good draft picks being made to make them worth it (Vasquez for picks).

Presti fleeced LAC and everyone knew it 15 minutes after the trade details broke. SGA becoming a superstar was the icing on the cake. But it wasn’t like SGA was some unknown. Doc Rivers even reportedly told Kawhi they shouldn’t be moving him

People weren’t framing it as a fleece, that’s disingenuous.

People called it a steep package but understandable for peak Kawhi and peak Pg.

The vast majority of nba fans had the Clippers as the title favourite after the trade. Sam Presti just took advantage of a bad situation but the consensus wasn’t him fleecing the Clippers at the time.

Fleece maybe isn’t the right word but everyone knew OKC got an insane haul.

There were people who were like “wtf how do you give that much up for PG” and it was only justifiable once it was like “oh, that’s for Kawhi to or he wasn’t coming”. It was a weird situation where LAC paid fair price for PG + Kawhi, but OKC got all the compensation for only 1/2 the return

It was literally a once in a lifetime trade we probably won’t ever see again.

Idk man, Mikal and Bane basically just went for 5 picks a pop.

That’s highkey worse to me since atleast you were giving up that many assets to get Kawhi and PG both coming off MVP caliber seasons.

We won’t ever see that many pick swaps though, for sure.

It was a fleece. Just because it was understandable to do it doesn't change that fact.

Mikal is understandable, that was for his contract as much as his ability.

Bane was just a horrible trade to. Made no sense to give up that was capital for that level of guy

You seem to know more than others about Poeltl's back being cooked and the extension being "entirely Bobby". The way you say it, it must be more than just a personal dislike of Jak and/or Bobby, but actual information you have. So I'm curious: what are your sources?

Are you being sarcastic? It was signed in July. Masai was fired after the draft.

Not I'm not being sarcastic at all. The extension was signed about a week after Masai was fired (June 28th to July 6th), I think it's fair to say that the process leading to such an important decision could have taken more than a week, no? Don't get me wrong, if they really rushed that through in a week without prior discussions that'd be pretty bad, but I have no indication that that's the case. Do you?

Edit: deleted the second point after realizing a different poster than I thought had replied.

Don’t matter about the work leading up man. You don’t sign that deal unless you believe it in. What you think Bobby, just shrugged and said, well, if Masai wanted to I guess we have to lock ourselves a bad decision for 4 years….

It was an awful trade but it was also made worse because it cost them at least 1 FRP to dump KCP the other way.

I had to argue with many people on this board that Poeltl was nowhere near a top 10 Center.

Not a single team wanted Poeltl when the Spurs looking to trade him other than the Celtics who wanted him as their situational 2nd/3rd C behind Horford/Robert Williams.

There is a reason why he has never been a starter on a good team in his career.

Who said Poeltl was a top 10 C? Shakril and?

Masai did.

I think this might be Sac trying to drive the price up. I really don't see why they'd take on longer contracts without significant compensation.

Poeltl is injured. Other than that his contract is pretty much perfectly placed amongst these guys.

IQ is something like the 52nd highest paid player in the nba and his advanced stats place him around there.

Both guys are moveable.

1. Nikola Jokić (DEN) - $55,224,526
2. Joel Embiid (PHI) - $55,224,526
3. Anthony Davis (DAL) - $54,126,450
4. Karl-Anthony Towns (NYK) - $53,142,264
5. Deandre Ayton (POR) - $43,654,814
6. Domantas Sabonis (SAC) - $42,336,000
7. Bam Adebayo (MIA) - $37,096,620
8. Rudy Gobert (MIN) - $35,000,000
9. Alperen Şengün (HOU) - $33,944,954
10. Myles Turner (MIL) - $25,318,251
11. Naz Reid (MIN) - $21,551,724
12. Nikola Vucevic (CHI) - $21,481,481
13. Jarrett Allen (CLE) - $20,000,000
14. Jakob Poeltl (TOR) - $19,500,000
15. Ivica Zubac (LAC) - $18,102,000
16. Steven Adams (HOU) - $14,130,435
17. Wendell Carter Jr. (ORL) - $10,850,000
18. Jonas Valančiūnas (DEN) - $10,395,000
19. Brook Lopez (LAC) - $8,750,000
20. Clint Capela (HOU) - $6,700,000

29. Yves Missi (NOP) - $3,353,040

Anyone is movable, you'd just have to attach picks to them.

If we want to move IQ or Poeltl, we would have to attach picks with them. It's not a hard concept to understand. That's why people call it bad contracts.

Despite some posters belief, you gotta pay someone. Anyone below Jak on that list is either worse than him or a rookie scale deal. Edit: except Zu

I don’t understand the comments about horrible contracts.

Anyone is movable, you'd just have to attach picks to them.

If we want to move IQ or Poeltl, we would have to attach picks with them. It's not a hard concept to understand. That's why people call it bad contracts.

Attach picks and get back what in return? Better player? Similar player? Worse player?

You just described like the majority of the league then

Everyone has bad contracts, it's up to the FO's to navigate those bad contracts or avoid creating ones.
