EDIT: I misremembered. Jak has been a part of so many versions of this team and involved in making everything happen - including a trade for Kawhi.

Dallas Mavericks center Dereck Lively II will undergo season-ending surgery on his right foot to address lingering discomfort, the team announced Wednesday. Lively, who played seven games this season, is expected to make a full recovery and be available for the start of training camp.

Ah that’s unfortunate, always thought we needed an athletic rim runner C

I’d still make a trade for Lively as a stash for next year.

I take Carter all day. We could literally sign Ellis as a free agent in the summer.

I like both. Ellis is restricted though, iirc.

Ellis is unrestricted actually.

I’ll take your word for it! Might be confusing him with Ochai. Regardless, we won’t have space.

Never felt Trey being available was real. Like why trade an up and coming 3 and D guy on a pretty good contract.

His value would be insanely high.

For th Sabonis haters. Wonder if they were Ingram haters as well. Sabonis would’ve a huge upgrade for this team. Kings are selling. Can probably get Monk and Westbrook in the deal.

But we still won't be able to afford Mamu? He's probably going to ask for 10M AAV. Despite Poeltl and IQ's contracts being flat I don't think it will work? I hope we punt that decision to next year and see where we go in the playoffs. If we reach the ECF we should go into the tax. I think if we stay with the status quo we could be surprised with how far our team goes.

Raptors will need to unload Dick

Dick makes $7.1m next season. Mamu PO is $2.8m. There is your starting $10m for Mamu.

Raptors will be at $190m salary with 11 roster spots and an estimated $201m salary cap. $11m for 3-4 roster spots.

Sabonis is Jak with less defense, but way better offense (shooting, back to the basket game) and rebounding. If you think the raps are amazing with 25 min of Jak, imagine 32 min of Sabonis.

They're completely different players lol. Sabonis is more like a rich man's Mamu.

yes, they are completely different players, but your comparison doesn’t work either. Sabonis doesn’t shoot like mamu. He is far less agile and is slower. They have completely different shot diets too.

My point was that sabonis’ passing and offense from the C spot would be awesome for the raptors. 32 min of that vs. what jak brings for 25 makes our team significantly better, even if we end up losing IQ in a trade. That is, so long as we also bring in another guard who can shoot.

Seems like this Siegel guy is just throwing stuff out and maybe one will hit - I don't think he has any "intel" about the Raptors, it what everyone else is suggesting.

isn't he in a weird contract situation where if we trade for him, we won't be able to retain him?

I was mistaken before and thought he was restricted. As it stands, he’s unrestricted. Let’s hope he signs off on a contract before he is included in a trade here. I had hoped he was restricted because it would make him easier for us to re-sign.

TheAlchemist23 wrote:Sabonis is the worst "star" in the league. Can't shoot, undersized with t-rex arms = can't defend, and his playmaking consists of dribble handoffs.

Agreed on shooting/size/defense issues, but saying his playmaking is just DHOs is not quite accurate, at least not from POV of what he's capable of. It's more of a function of DHOs being so damn effective and Sabonis having some elite skills (great split-second decision making, passing and hard screens) that make him probably the best DHO guy in the league, so naturally coaches really leaned into using him that way. But he definitely has shown way more in his playmaking bag than just DHOs over the years. All that said, if I was Bobby, I'd probably not go for Sabonis. He's more of a floor raiser, not really the guy who will turn a team into a contender as that final piece.

A lot of these guys just report on chatter and there's a lot of calls being made right now with the deadline approaching. Jake Fischer who's legit does the same. Toronto has been shopping IQ since they signed him in order to upgrade the position. It seems to me that the OG trade was a placeholder. If IQ becomes legit, they keep him, if not they try and move him.

Don't see how that's even possible.

He's a free agent this year, he'd be my #1 target if we decide to use the MLE on a guard instead on a centre. But yah for this trade deadline it makes no sense.

I'd still bet on us not making any moves aside from ducking the tax, don't think it's time to cash in any chips just yet.
