Basically using Grange and our media to say we're not desperate to get rid of IQ and others lol we're definitely still in talks for a star but the right thing would be to not force a trade for the sake of it.

Bobby being on the hot seat/under pressure to make a huge splash never made any sense. We're young, we're clearly improving, and we're less than a year removed from having already made a big move
I get your point but Grange doesn't have the best track record.
Its because Grange has a history of being very wrong about so many things in the past its hard to take reporting serious from someone who has a history of reporting false information in the past.
Yah, Grange has had some notable big misses, but I'm not sure his track record is any worse than Stein/Lewenberg/Unnamed Eastern Conference Executive, etc

Grange may well be getting that intel from Bobby himself, it certainly reads like that to me, but it doesn't change the fact that the previous rumours all came from rival executives speculating about the Raptors' intent, and major rumour mongers in the US ran with those stories instead of doing any work on the Toronto side.
Grange has attempted to source the Toronto side, and he is probably the only journalist left that could get sources above management. Bruce Arthur was previously tied to Larry Tanenbaum. I don't know if I believe any of it, but we know as a general practice the Raptors have always inquired about the price of stars when they come on the market, well before this year.

There’s a difference between league wide reporters and people like Grange. Grange is essentially embedded with the Raps, and anything coming from him, doug, JLew and people like that is coming right from the front office. IMO
Access is everything to these guys, and their work is done for them, as long as they don’t try to hard to do it.

it makes sense that other teams aren't interested in our worst contracts (unless if they're motivated enough to unload even bigger deals of their own). No team is giving up salary relief for IQ or Yak right now.

Orr...its literally the opposite of everything you've been insisting on every post lately.Clutch0z24 wrote:So basically everything you just said the opposite is the truth Grange does not have sources....He is wrong more than he is right about anything.

Re: Grange: Raptors prepared to be patient with Webster leading over the long term
I do think the front office, over the years, has figured out how to look busy, and seemingly be in on everything, without doing much.
Despite all the stuff I saw, I still don’t see anyone taking IQ or Poeltl without mega draft assets. The only thing I’m sure of is they will not pay the tax this year. Not sure if there’s non-guaranteed deal we can just cut, but it will be getting rid of some money. Hopefully we can get a asset back and we’re not just giving up a 2nd so Nets take Ochai.

That history is in regards to literal trades. Coming from outside sources that were "playing the game". It wasnt about who is and isn't on the hot seat. Thats tough to mess up when it comes directly from the president of MLS.Clutch0z24 wrote:earthtone wrote:People believe un-sourced rumours from random Twitter bots, but choose to disregard an article by a writer who's followed the team for 20 years and got the President of MLSE on record for the story.

Grange reporting, expect CMB, multiple first rounders out the door for AD or JA.

I’ve literally been saying this all year.
This is still Masai’s team. Bobby is under pressure to 1) make it his team 2) make some playoff noise
Maybe if he wasn’t dumb enough to give Poeltl that extension, he could trade him now with RJ or IQ for a significant upgrade. But now it’s hard to see Bobby landing a big fish.
Bobby probably gets fired this summer.
I believe the last update was that ownership is still working with CAA to find a new team president.

Wtf is Grange smoking lol, no one is going to believe what he says over Shams. Bobby got another extension when he was named Head Basketball Decision Maker.
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/46008705/sources-raptors-gm-webster-head-basketball-operations
And this was on top of the extension he (among other FO members) got from Masai before he was let go:

To be fair, that was reported by the team and there is not any details on the extension at all.

All I can think is maybe they're re-negotiating to include him as president? I have no idea, but it is an inconsistency that should have been addressed in Grange's article.
Ultimately, Grange appears to have correctly identified the source of the "Bobby's desperate" to some weak speculation on the part of outsiders with a vested interest in making the Raptors look bad.
He's thrown water on the bigger names. And speculates it will be a smaller name to avoid the tax.

Even if we end up not doing significant at the deadline, people are still going to go with the narrative that we were desperate to get everyone but nobody wanted RJ, IQ and Jak as the reason why. There's not much there to this report since everyone's mind is already made up on what to believe anyways lol
I suppose the only way anyone's mind might change is if we do nothing and he still gets an extension?

I mean that's a wildly disingenuous quote from Omer. Literally the next lines of the article are:
It’s the undercurrent that helps explain why the Raptors have so often been rumoured as a team of interest when it comes to any of the so-called needle-movers that may be available for trade, from Trae Young to Anthony Davis to Ja Morant or Domantas Sabonis.
But quite often the collective wisdom trails the on-the-ground reality.
Whichever direction Webster and the Raptors take as the Feb. 5 trade deadline approaches, there is one thing that is certain:
Webster is not making short-term decisions based on his contract status.
Quite the opposite.
According to multiple sources, Webster and the Raptors have had meaningful discussions on a multi-year extension to his current deal with talks expected to pick up after the trade deadline.
Certainly the notion that Webster is under any sort of expectation to pull a rabbit out of a hat to ensure his long-term future seemed far-fetched if you watched him interact comfortably with a rarely seen but noteworthy group prior to the Raptors' game against the Los Angeles Clippers at Scotiabank Arena on Friday.

Yeah. That was pretty bad. Zero integrity there.

I think the Pelley stuff supporting Bobby is legit. A few articles now Pelley has used Grange for quotes. But I definitely think they support Bobby to upgrade the roster if he can buy low on these rumoured guys.

Ochai Agbaji for a backup Center looks like the most obvious move. And that is all I think there will be.
