Re: Official Trade Thread Part XLVII
Jimmy Butler tore his ACL and is out for the season.
Golden State has no hope for contention and they are paying $81M in luxtax fees. If they don't do something drastic like trade Steph and blow it up, my guess is that they'll make a move to save some salary. The best deal I see that would involve us would be them sending Kuminga somewhere for two small contracts, and one of those small contracts gets sent our way into a TPE. We would get compensation from one or both of the other teams for our trouble.
Something like:
Golden State trades: Kuminga ($22.5M)
Golden State receives: Maxi Kleber ($11.0M)
LA Lakers trade: Maxi Kleber ($11.0M), Gabe Vincent ($11.5M)
LA Lakers receive: Kuminga ($22.5M)
Washington trades: TPE
Washington receives: Gabe Vincent ($11.5M)
Golden State dumps $11.5M in salary which would save them $56M in luxtax payments.
LA trades garbage for an athletic forward (filing a big need).
The compensation could be a 3-way pick swap of our 2026 picks where Golden State would get the worst of their pick, LA's pick and our OKC pick, the Lakers would get the second-worst, and we would get the best of the 3.

We're not trading for Zion unless we get him for free. And New Orleans isn't dumping Zion unless they get at least some value for him.

Yabusele with fellow French NT players Sarr and Bilal would be interesting. Bad mix in NY but he played well next to those two. Probably not good enough to wreck the tank race. But I like the idea of being the French Foreign Legion over here.

If we send out Marvin, Yabu would slot right in. I like the energy Yabusele plays with. Also I like his toughness. It wasn't easy to get back into the league. Absorb his current contract and extend him to a just-over-min deal for a couple seasons? Good depth guy.

Re: Official Trade Thread Part XLVII
Count me in for Sabonis over Zion. Zion in DC is just too much of a risk, even if he is more talented and just better. Him and Cam in the clubs would become the stuff of legends. Sabonis would be far less of a distraction. Sacramento probably asking for more than what we'd be willing to give up, though.
Can't say I do. Who else gonna shoot?

Yabusele already has a $5.75M player option for next year. Given his lackluster production this year, I wouldn't be inclined to extend him for anything beyond that.

I have trouble understanding how any team would take on 2.5 years of Zion's $40 million per year contract given he can't play for 50% of games (without draft capital attached)

I cannot understand why we would want Zion at all.

I don't think his deal is fully guaranteed. Setting that and his availability aside, his rebounding tells me he isn't about winning. With his size and athleticism getting only 7 rebounds per 36 is ridiculous.

There’s either a weight clause and/or games played clause that gives the team an out of Zion’s contract.

We would be owed value in a Yabu-Bagley deal. I previously proposed a pick swap of the OKC 2026 for the Knicks pick. That is now 30 -> 21 with the Knicks crashing, which makes the Knicks less likely to make that deal than a few weeks ago. It is still a good deal for them considering both that Bagley is an upgrade that eases the minutes of Robinson and KAT, and (I think) that it opens up a room under the second apron for a minimum deal because Bagely is paid $2.4 million less than Yabu.
I agree on not extending.

Guy is a freak and averaging a per36 of 30/7/4 with a TS of nearly 70% and ORTG of 130 over the last 15 games
So he would lead us to a few more wins this year and hurt our pick...then proceed to get hurt next year and repeat the cycle.
Im half kidding, but he really would the defense bender that would open up our offense and lead to more wins. No bueno
I actually really like just letting Midds expire and maintain the cap space. If we end up with a Peterson, Brown, or Flemings... Zion might be an interesting addition.

I agree completely. I have no interest in pulling off another Trae Young type of trade where we turn Middleton into a longer contract of a "undervalued" star. We did one of those deals, and that's fine. I want to spend the remainder of our 2026 cap room on free agents selected specifically to address particular holes in the roster (jumbo big and/or a rebounding 4).
For the Trade Deadline this year, I'm mostly interested in trading our TPE's for expiring contracts to help teams get out of the luxury tax. I've identified multiple targets already: Lonzo Ball, Maxi Kleber, Gabe Vincent, Mike Conley, Yabusele, Tyus Jones, Nic Batum. And if we use the Lakers as an intermediary with the contracts of Kleber and Vincent, we can effectively combine our two $14M TPE's into one big TPE and help a team unload a bigger salary like Kuminga, or Simons.

Agreed nate. The use of TPE(s), Branham's expiring, and our 3 2nds in the 50-60 range are probably a bit boring, but that's what Im watching too.
A savvy GM/FO would use those assets to end up with a swap of the OKC pick up 4-7 spots, along with a consolidation of the 2nds into a higher 2nd.
We should end up with pick 22-25, and another 2nd in the top 45 for that...but we'll see

So with Jimmy down maybe the warriors are desperate?
Wiz get
Draymond, al horford, they lower the protection on the 2030 pick for us to top 3 if it doesn't convey it extinguishes, and. 2030 and 2031 second round picks
Nets get
Pod, kuminga, and Middleton, 2026 first unprotected form gs and 2028 top 5 protected and if it doesn't convey it extinguishes.
GS get
Bagley, Mann, porter JR.
We take on 30 million bucks and we get an upgrade on the pick we own and insurance Incase it doesn't convey with the seconds all for middleton and Bagley.
Next get more capital and young players to amp up that tank that porter has been **** up.
For GS. With Jimmy down man steps in to replace some of that and Porter takes his role Bagley really helps out up front since al has been cooked.
Is that too high of a price idk but that would do something for them!
We can then turn around and try to flip Al and Draymond for anything at all
Al horford can probably get h you a second somewhere for a cap strap team in needed of a center. Say to the Lakers for Gabe Vincent and A 2031 second
Then you al and flip Draymond.
