That’s how I’d play him initially too. Max his shooting and have him run off screens. Then develop his on ball game.

I believe in his shooting. Could be a big time shooter. Lots of these combo guys would be so much better if the maxed their shooting instead of trying to be on ball scorers.
He won't ever be a good shooter.
He's not going to go from being a 37% shooter from the field, 27% from three, and magically become a good shooter at the NBA level. He doesn't have it in him. He's going to be a mistake for any team that drafts him.

That's a bit harsh. He's only played 12 games. He shot it well in HS and over the summer for the u19 team (47% from 3).

Having said that last night was hard to watch. I can't unsee that. Given what we've seen from the other freshman i have to kick him to the curb. As a wizards fan with a top 8 pick i have to kick him out of my top 8 pending a major turnaround.

How is it harsh?
It's his shooting percentages.
Shooting doesn't come naturally for him. Can the guy try to average one steal per game? No effort with this kid at all.

Do the words 'sample size' ring a bell?

He's shooting 83% from the foul line but shooting doesn't come naturally to him? Cool story bro

I have no interest in discussing free throws or high school basketball with you. Your effort resembles his effort. You have nothing else to go off of. I hope your team drafts him.

The best shooters typically shoot well from the foul line. In fact college foul shooting correlates better with NBA 3 pt shooting than college 3 pt shooting does. Sounds like this is news to you.

It's 12 games. If you want to say he shouldn't go lottery or whatever that's fine but trying to project his entire career based off 12 games when he's struggled with back problems? That's dubious

Michael Brown Jr is good if you need free throws. Otherwise, he has no business being in the lottery.

2/10 shooting from the field. 4 turnovers against 11-11 Wake Forest.

He's extremely traitsy so for that alone, he's gonna be a top 10 pick. That said, he's at least two tiers worse than Trae Young at this stage and he's not the youngest either.

Look at this for example, comp with traitsy prospects

As someone who doesn't follow high school - really not seeing it so far in college. Looks more like a late 1st gamble than a lotto guy.

We see guys like this all the time. IE Nick Smith. Combo guards really aren't all that. You need to either be a lights out shooter or able to play point guard. I don't know if this guy can do either.

Might not be a bad idea to stay in school. Sometimes he looks like a 16 yr old playing in college.

Clearly, he's a lurker here and read this thread last night. You're welcome, Louisville fans.

Elite traitsy guys almost always hit. You got him and AJ. As unproductive as Mikel been, I keep telling ya'll, it doesn't matter. These guys always translate

I didn't love some of the showboating/statpadding late in the game. Nice to see him get hot though.

He had an exhibition game like this just before the season and shot well in the u19 games in the summer.

Was certainly impressive in that one, turn it around and show us something Mikel.

And what the heck was that Paul McNeil Jr? I'd kinda been liking you.
