Horst has been enamored with athletic guys who have limited basketball skills- Ajax, AJJ, Marjon.

So check out the guys near the top of the draft and find who is the most athletic and unskilled.

It's almost as if getting Giannis in the draft cemented the idea to always take a chance on athleticism over skills and BBIQ (at the time Giannis was drafted no one knew he had a higher BBIQ than he showed).

I’d take Amen Thompson to build around and he fits that description to a T.

hahaha, yeah you get it.

at least i will get a chance to experience a version of the pre giannis gallows humor real gm that ya'll reference occasionally.

Idk if it’s delusion.

Rather I think Horst and ownership have not let Giannis and his agent force his way to a particular team/s.

Maybe that’s why there’s smoke about Giannis firing his agent and Rich Paul making friends with Thanasis.

Lol, no **** Andrew. Because it's almost like we weren't communicating to any of these teams that he's available until today. Stick to the NFL bud.

Giannis is at $54 million. JJ is $30 million. Zingas and CJ are both expiring but are also at $30 million. We would have to add in around $6 million (I believe we can't take back more salary than we sent out?).

Bottom line is deals like this take a lot of time to get the players, draft picks, salaries, everything in order.

no one is a "keeper" at this point. any players coming back need to be flipped when their value ripens. i dont think it's really registered for many people that we have absolutely no shot at anything, at a bare minimum, for the next 7 seasons. And that's if we tank in 2030-31, hit on a great young player, and are then able to surround him with talent with the assets that we keep rolling over from now until 2033.

So you think we’re going to tank for 4 years with no pick control? You’re delusional.
Owners want win now players.

What does "win now" even mean when Giannis is traded? We're not winning now with this roster AND Giannis. We won't be winning right away no matter what the trade is. We need some good young players AND draft picks. Starting with a nice juicy lottery pick this year in a stacked draft to go along with our own lottery pick. And then more picks down the road.

What's the alternative? Don't trade Giannis and try to build around him with NO assets? Let him play out his contract and walk and get nothing in return? Those are the two worst alternatives.

Of course making a trade is risky. Lottery picks can bust. That's why you need a JJ or similar as well. But doing nothing isn't the answer.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Man all the fake trades from warriors fans are sickening. No, we don’t want Draymond Podz and Hield for Giannis.

For the same reason we traded Trae. We had no choice. He wanted out, wtf else could we do. The offers aren't going to get better either because your back is against the wall and now he wants to win and continue. The problem is, this is a weak asset window. The peak is anytime 3 years out. Two years max. Within a year in and a half is when you screwed.

Hawks needed someone who didn't care if they were any good in 2027. They needed to just blow the money.

For ya'll, Giannis wants to win a title, THIS YEAR. You gonna need a desperate contender or wannabe.

If there was a player trade comp I could think of with Giannis it would absolutely be Trae **** Young obviously

There's always the option of not trading him unless you get the offer you want. Otherwise your just spouting the same nonsense Miami fans tried telling Portland fans when Dame was on the block

**** it.. wherever Giannis goes, i'm adopting them as my second team. always bucks first, but no one can stop me from emotionally attaching and investing immediately to a team that i know nothing about and crying over playoff losses like i grew up wearing pajamas with the team logo.

it's about Giannis. obviously, most of the deal was that he was a Buck, but he's also an incredible human being to root for. So i'm taking the ride with him. Is this a poor way to cope with loss? jury is out.

Haslam obsession? Whatever. You should be more annoyed that everything he touches rots and now we have to deal with it. Dudes a POS in is business as well.

Jimmy Haslam is worth $8,500,000,000.

So probably not everything rots.

What third team is involved who would want Butler/Kuminga and crappy GS picks because we sure don't.

Bucks will do Giannis a favor and send him to GSW since the Knicks don’t have the package

GSW picks will be good post-Steph and mid 30s Giannis. His next supermax is going to be an albatross in the back half as his play really declines.

Fu... the favor there is no loyalty in the trade market.GS package is right up there with the rancid Knicks garbage.Horst isn't going to screw the bucks team future by appeasing giannis. This is the 1 shot the bucks have to redo he eill get traded for the best offer not get low balled

Eh, this is the 3rd largest board here and it didn't get that way because all of the sudden Giannis showed up. Most of us got here during a run of extremely mediocre basketball. .

Want to thank everyone on this board for making it a great place. As usual we are days, weeks, years(?) ahead of the casual Bucks fan.

I was listening to 1250am just now and between that and twitter a number of people still think Shams is "lying"

Then you've got folks who now believe Shams, but are talking about ways the Bucks can rework the roster in the offseason to make Giannis happy to stay here. Lol. That ship is already in the Mediterranean.

Let's face it, whatever the trade is a large chunk here will be outraged that we didn't get enough . We're "realgm" after all. I may be one of them. That's the whole purpose of boards like this. To debate. And it's always easier to be negative and then be "pleasantly" surprised when things to well than the other way around. If you expect the worst you can't be disappointed.

Unfortunately, being rich doesn't absolve him of being another crappy Billionaire who's completely sports inept.

It's a good thing he has all that cash though, because he'll be paying a pretty penny to his franchise groper for a bit.

i think you misunderstood what i said. my point is that we are nowhere near contention for at least 7 years, at the earliest. my second point is that we should not keep players like JJ any longer than when we feel we can get peak value for them. What would be the point of that? To be the Chicago Bulls but not even get the 17th overall pick as a lukewarm bonus for mediocrity?

We need to become an asset machine. We take in assets and then we flip them for more future assets. Once we have what can loosely be considered a top 5 to 10 player, then we can talk about "keepers." I'm going to assume that will not happen until we can draft one at the top of the lottery.

Point is, tanking vs. trying is irrelevant unless we are in a swap year and we know the team with the swap is also going to be terrible. The important thing is just planting the asset crops and harvesting them at the right time, rinse and repeat, until the time is right. It's probably going to be a while before the time is right.

I guess that's the point many of us are making. We don't control our pick for another 5 years. So how do we build around Giannis if he stays? By making a trade we get (hopefully) a really good player or two AND several picks. Will it work? Who the hell knows. But what we're doing now isn't working.

Guys, there's till a chance, in this epic, weird saga, that Giannis comes out and says that the reports were bull and that he's committed. That would hit like crack right now. I'm not saying the chances are good, but it feels right for this story.

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
