I've thought that for years.

Here is a script idea. Remember Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill in Money Ball?. My movie would involve a consensus "RealGM" information system making real-time decisions that would assist the coach/manager.

The RealGM would make draft and trade strongly worded suggestions. Over the years, this consensus of our board has been a million times better than the decisions the Wizards have made.

I feel like the late Jimmy The Greek on this. There's no way I would have drafted Johnny Davis or Corey Kispert.

How bout we wait til after the 2026 draft. Reasonable? They said they want to tear it down to the foundation. Before you pour a foundation you have to dig a hole. The plan is to build from the draft. We’ve had 2 drafts. With no franchise player apparent in either draft. They got players with upside. Still looking for that all star to build around.

They’ve been transparent it’s going to hurt for a bit. But there’s no point rushing it.

This years draft gives us a hint. Offseason development from these rooks and Bilal. Play the 25-26 season intent on that top 8 pick. Test out this years rook. Trade dead weight. Grow our own. Add one more bunch of talent in 2026. With ours or the PHX pick. After that every consequence is based on their picks and choices. Not Tommy trading John Wall for Westbrook. Or overpaying and giving Beal his no trade clause.

That’ll be 6 seasons. Considering how loyal Ted is, that’s nothing.

Plus they are destroying and rebuilding. Sheppard and Grunfeld left a mess and ZERO extra assets!!

These guys been on the job for what? 19 months?!

I think we will have a good pulse after next season and the 2026 offseason.

You may never be able to evaluate Dawkins and Winger's performance here. They transcend space and time.

At least they didn't trade away a 25 year old Luka for AD, Christie and 1 first lol even if that works out for them god that looks bad right now.

It's ok, they are not perfect *Deni trade cough*, they also waited too-long to address the front court IMO, but we shall see how things shake out this Summer. Winger/Dawkins have been excellent asset managers.

The difference is that Sweetney's career is over, and Winger/Dawkins is not, at least not here in DC.

Sweetney fit the profile of a highly productive player in college. I had some concerns that Queen could go down a Sweetney road. I was wrong.

But, one problem with the highly (offensive) productive college player is that it doesn’t necessarily account for being a true 2-way player in the NBA.

Dawkins has focused on the potential 2-way player and, post-draft, they have developed the young players defensively. Both Bub and Tre have improved defensively.

I will be curious what they think about Cam Boozer. To me, he’s a really a one-way player. He doesn’t block shots and he doesn’t change shots. That’s a big problem for a big man. Cam will be a big-time scorer, passer, and rebounder. He will be a hard-worker and, I suspect, good teammate. He will not be a plus defender for a big man.

I'll start off with saying I don't have a well-versed understanding of how the NBA disciplinary mechanisms work (Does anyone really? They likely dropped the ball with Rozier as a recent example), but from a layman's point of view, if Winger knew of the alleged circumvention, even if he wasn't completely onboard with them, I don't know how he wouldn't be included in punishments. He knew, didn't report, and it happened. Again, if true.

To me, if you are a GM of an NBA franchise, you are obligated to follow the word of the contractual framework you and every other GM in the league are bound to, which is the CBA. He was Lawrence Franks' number 2 and according to reporting said "How many f*cking side deals do we have with Leonard?", which implies that he knew something was going on. To further this, he was apparently apart of the push to get Leonard in the first place (he had already been GM of Clippers 2 years before Leonard arrived) and stayed on for approximately 4 years after their successful recruitment of Leonard. Whether he's not part of the franchise now, is immaterial, he was part of said franchise when alleged violations of the CBA occurred for many years, the tampering aspect of things allegedly started in Wingers first year with LAC for what it's worth. If some want to imply this somehow flew past Winger in his whole time there, and that he was oblivious of what was happening I have a set of steak knives to sell that can cut through titanium... :nod:

Now will the NBA see it this way? I dunno. Maybe they look to mitigate the blowback of this whole fiasco, if true, and really just throw the book at Balmer, Franks, and Leonard & Co., but unless Winger is a cooperator at this point (which is a possibility), why would he get off with no punishment? If again he had knowledge of transgressions, and did nothing about it coming from an extremely powerful position within the franchise, he's essentially at best complicit in the scheme.

Aside from whatever happens from a disciplinary point of view, it doesn't even touch on the professional and competency implications this brings to Winger's doorstep.
