Shams: Spurs Release Sochan / Update: Will Sign With NYK

Sucks but the writing was on the wall. He is an elite one on one defender but that's basically it. He had a promising rookie campaign and plateaued after that. Hope he sticks somewhere but PFs that can't score or shoot or really do anything besides play man defense aren't a hot commodity these days

Any teams that might take a flyer on him?

EDIT: Looks like he is going to NY. Good for him. I hope he can carve out a niche for himself

Plenty of teams would take a flyer on him. Kings, Wizards, Pelicans. Spurs just don't have the time to waste on a long term project.

What happened to him ? Last season, he was really good and got along wonderfully with Wemby.

I know that his role has been smaller than in the past but I don't understand why the Spurs don't retain him for depth at SF/PF. Makes no sense because they can play long series in the playoffs.

What if Harrison Barnes and/or Champagnie will be out in the playoffs with an injury?

Assuming DeRozan and Lavine are gone and DeAndre Hunter continues to be mid AF there should be plenty of minutes available in Sacramento next year with no real expectations. I'd gladly pick him up.

He wasn't though

The problem is not only that he can't shoot, it's that he won't shoot too. He literally does not look to score when he is on the court which makes him unplayable with Victor because his man can just leave to double and because SA has guards like Castle/Fox/Harper who are average to poor shooters, he is unplayable in most lineups. On top of all that, he kind of strikes me as a knucklehead. I remember his time here more for his antics than his actual production

Think about it. The Spurs have NO POWER FORWARDS on their roster now and they chose to release the only one they had rather than play him. Should tell you a lot

He has bottom 5 scoring ability in the entire NBA and solely survives off being dirty and annoying

He is athletic and a decent defender but is the worst sort of player, anti-basketball in every sense, and his ilk should be avoided at all costs. Please do not talk yourself into him, he’s completely awful and there’s a reason he got cut.

Miami should be in line on this one. The exact type of reclamation project that team loves

Will they play him with his lack of shooting as a forward in the playoffs?

I doubt it very much, it's tough being a guy his size and having very little outside shooting ability.

Harrison Barnes is unquestionably a Power Forward and has been for the past 5 seasons.

The Spurs are done tanking, so Sochan’s services are no longer needed.
