An NBA Board of Governors meeting in March will continue discussions over the possibility of expansion, sources told Shams Charania of ESPN.
"There is a Board of Governors meeting in March where the expectation is there's going to be some more information, financials, on what it looks like when you go get a couple more expansion teams," said Charania.
Seattle and Las Vegas remain the two favorites to receive expansion teams. Washington Governor Bob Ferguson met with Adam Silver last week to discuss bringing the NBA back to Seattle.
Seattle and Las Vegas both landing expansion teams would also necessitate a Western Conference team moving to the East.
"Seattle and Las Vegas are the front runners for expansion teams. And then from there, a Western Conference team moving to the Eastern Conference. So when you think about teams in that region - Memphis, Minnesota, New Orleans - could one of those teams potentially move to the Eastern Conference," said Charania.
Charania added that while conversations will take place this Spring, expansion still remains some time away.
"This is still a few years away from actually taking place," said Charania.
