News flash to OP. He was traded. And it was not discussed with him. So what are we doing here?

Here is what I will tell you - he sure as hell signed that extension. What do you have to say about that?

not only would they have the same defensive shortcomings they would also be a much worse fit offensively than Luka and Reaves.

The Lakers have become a clown show really. Take away the phony bubble championship, and they've accomplished nothing the past decade plus. Their leadership is too poor to build a consistent winner, which is strange, because the name "Los Angeles Lakers" used to be enough to get whatever combination of players they wanted. Now, they're just acquiring guys who can sell super expensive tickets. They aren't a competent, serious franchise anymore.

He was traded to LA, he didnt go there as a FA lol. And all reports are that he wasnt consulted before the trade. He has said before that he thought he was going to spend his entire career in Dallas.

The Lakers were in the middle of transitioning from a Lebron-centric team to an AD-centric team. Then Nico came calling. As good as Luka is, this Laker team would be better right now with a healthy AD and Max Christie. AR, Lebron and Luka have overlapping skillsets. They haven't even really begun building a team around Luka yet.

The Lakers have new ownership, a new front office that is being put together in the mold of the Dodgers, the most cap space in the league this summer, and 3 draft picks they can trade. It's an underwhelming free agent class, unfortunately, unless they can steal away someone's RFA.
