Re: Hannes Steinbach
He is so much more fluid of a mover than he gets credit for.
He is currently 10th on my board while trying to sort through the guard salad in this draft of Acuff, Flemmings, Brown, Burries and Philon.
Once I figure out those exact ranks, I think Hannes will be 6th-8th. Especially once these guards all measure shorter than their listed heights.

Re: Hannes Steinbach
Does his height listing look legit? He was listed at 2.04m last season, which is around 6'8 1/3 inches. He didn't look much taller than the 6'7 listed german players on their team photo and those are usually heights without shoes around here.
But that was a picture fron summer 2024. Is it possible that he grew close to 6'10 w/o shoes so they started to list him as 6'11?

Do you think he's a better mover than freshman Cody Zeller?

The thing is.. GER national teams usually dont lie and they list them barefoot. So if they listed him 6'9.. he is 6'9 barefoot.

Yeah I think he is just as fluid in short bursts, Cody might have better top end speed but Hannes can get out and move.

Re: Hannes Steinbach
Just watch him play and you can tell he has pretty good size and length. Maybe it isn't record setting but you don't average 11.5 rebounds per game typically if you are massively undersized. I am never watching him play and think man he looks undersized compared to the guy he is guarding and he is playing in a big boy conference.

Re: Hannes Steinbach
Steinbach is certainly the most-highly ranked player, and the only player widely considered to be in the lottery, who is likely to miss the NCAA Tournament. In fact, he's the only player in the whole first round that this could happen to, assuming Texas with Dailyn Swain makes the tournament.*
In the Big Ten tournament, the 12 seed Huskies play 13 seed Southern California Wednesday, 3/11 at 11:30 AM Pacific Time.
If they lose that game, their season will end.
*NOTE: This is wrong as Cameron Carr of Baylor and possibly Tounde Yessoufou who may be a first round pick are also on track to miss the tournament.

Re: Hannes Steinbach
I was always curious why Hannes chose WAS when his fellow GER bigs chose P5 schools.
It looks great on his resume no doubt but makes me question if he wanted to win more or shine more.
Still no one can deny his talent

He is quoted in a German article from May 2025 as following: "Ich denke, dass man nicht direkt zu dem größten College gehen muss, da man da vielleicht nicht so viele Optionen und Spielzeit kriegt, und das ist für mich das Wichtigste."
Which translates to: "I think you don't need to go to the biggest colleges right away, because you probably wouldn't have as many options and getting as much playing time and that's the most important to me."

Honestly, with the way the NCAA has changed, it's probably the smarter route. Even if he didn't go to the NBA right away, he could easily transfer to one of the bigger programs now. Look at Mattieu Grujicic (https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/5290629/mathieu-grujicic) for example. He was easily the best player on all of the German youth national teams he was playing - yet hardly sees the court at Ohio State.

Yeah he shined more no doubt. Gonna help his resume.
But Reibe and Grunloh will probably have a better college experience lol

Re: Hannes Steinbach
I'm not suprised to see him being viewed by some posters here as a four, though I believe he can pack enough weight to play center; I do think, however, that the Markkanen comp is way off. Steinbach is not as skilled offensively and his shooting is still a WIP.
I see a lot of Hartenstein and Poeltl in him, and he seems to be built pretty similar to Andris Biedrins, who was decent until the injuries derailed his career - and on a much different bigs era.
And I absolutely love what I saw from Steinbach in terms of defending on the perimeter and in space. You can read more here:

I think we see him as a 4 because he doesnt block shots no? Like you cant make him the last line of defense.

He can block shots and I expect him to be a deep threat in the NBA. Top 10 pick.RookieStar wrote:I think we see him as a 4 because he doesnt block shots no? Like you cant make him the last line of defense.

My bad...i got confuse. I meant like a powerhouse/well known/contending/whetever school.
Like top dogs in their conferences. You know Duke UNC UK Uconn Fla etc etc
Aside from Fultz i dunno anyone that camenout from their school that was a success.
Dont get me wrong.. not faulting trying to go the Steph , Kawhi , etc role.

Brandon Roy, Quincy Pondexter, Dejounte Murray, Marques Chriss, Jaden McDaniels, Isaiah "Beef" Stewart, Isaiah Thomas, Spencer Hawes, Jon Brockman, Justin Holiday, Terrence Ross, Tony Wroten, Jaylen Nowell, Nate Robinson, CJ Wilcox, Matisse Thybulle.
All came out of the Washington program to the NBA since 2000. Just saying, Washington having future pros isn't a new phenomenon.

Seattle is easily one of the best basketball recruiting cities in the country. Maybe not as much recently, but historically it's as good as it gets after LA and maybe Houston.
