How did the Hawks end up getting the 13th pick (used in Queen trade) coming into the 2025 draft?

It wasn’t their own pick. That pick was from the Kings, and was originally a 2024 lottery protected 1st before becoming a top 12 protected 1st in 2025.

Why didn’t the pick convey in 2024?

The Sacramento Kings were the 9th seed in 2024 and advanced to the final round of the play-in tournament. Win that game and the 15th pick in 2024 goes to the Hawks, lose the game and the pick rolls over to next year.

The Kings lost their final play-in game. Who was their opponent?

10% of the time, teams with the 7th-best odds moved up to the #1 overall pick, with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2007 and the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019 being the only two teams to do so.

20% of the time, teams moved up into the top 4 pick (excluding the #1 pick). This includes the Sacramento Kings (2nd pick in 2018), the Toronto Raptors (4th in 2021), and the Chicago Bulls (4th in 2020).

40% of the time, teams stayed exactly at 7th, such as the Washington Wizards in 2023, the Denver Nuggets in 2016 and 2015, and the Toronto Raptors in 2005.

30% of the time, teams with the 7th-best odds fell below 7th, such as the Memphis Grizzlies (9th in 2024) and the New York Knicks (8th in 2017).

After the top 4 selections, Wagler, Acuff, Brown, Flemings, Ament sill there. All of those guys are top 10 picks in just about any draft. Hawks have a very high chance of adding another very talented player no matter the lottery

The skinny: Mosley did a great job raising the Magic’s floor. But the Pels needed more than just a new coach. This was a dead offseason for a team that finished 30 games under .500 last season, and status quo in the Western Conference is falling behind. For now, the Pels haven’t moved Zion Williamson or Trey Murphy III or Herb Jones. Obviously there’s talent in the room, but there was last season, too — and, without its first-rounder in 2026 and having no reason to lie down, New Orleans wasn’t an egregious tanker. The Pels played most of their key guys all year. They were just bad. That’s not encouraging.

The skinny: Bucks fans never really had much time to enjoy their 2021 title before enduring five years of seemingly endless speculation about Antetokounmpo’s future. The package of players and picks from Miami for the Greek Freak isn’t nearly as robust as Heat fans (and many of their local media) insisted it was, but it’s an OK return for the two-time league MVP and 10-time All-Star. Burries and Ament are a good beginning for a rebuild. Ware and Jaquez are good young pieces (one suspects Herro will, if not next season, ultimately be re-routed elsewhere), and the Bucks will likely move out any remaining vets with any value before February’s trade deadline.

Position: SG | Size: 6'6", 196 lbs | Age: 20

A regular name in 2026 first-round conversations, Braylon Mullins should be right back in the mix with a bigger role and easier path toward the 2027 lottery.

The historic shot he hit to beat Duke in the NCAA tournament highlighted his signature shooting range and shotmaking confidence. He was one of the most potent off-ball scoring freshmen, but he also possesses functional athletic ability for finishing and defending.

He should have a chance to be used in more ball-screen situations and expand his self-creation as a sophomore.
