Are you saying that they are not the future of the Hornets?

One of them is.

The other is Brandon Miller.

Anybody who watched him all season could tell he was playing through pain.

He's gonna get paid regardless he's one of the best young 2 way wings in the league point blank.

Both of them are the future. Discrediting Brandon Miller who gave it his all this year. Smh.

LaMelo Ball is a much better player than Brandon Miller at the same age and he is the priority.

Unlike Miller he earned his max contract.

Max contract or not, Miller is still the future of the Hornets. Idk why everyone is downplaying him.

We have some serious Konboys on this board. They don't want Miller taking his spotlight. :D

You were very outspoken anti-Kon prior to the regular season and have started chirping back up about him after his end of season slump. You were very quiet about him for the first 70 odd games of the season and now the boot comes out at the first opportunity.

Still twice the player of Ace "Blinkers" Bailey. He makes Kelly Oubre Jr look like John Stockton.

Brandon losing another off-season to surgery really brings the injury issues back to the forefront. Hopefully he doesn't hurt himself again next season.

Thanks for proving my point.

Wish you had this energy when I was calling KON ROTY for those 70 games.

Because I said he hit a wall I'm now a hater lmao

This board is hilarious

Brandon has the potential to be the best two way player on this team. No doubt. A future All-Star even. But first he's got to come back from this blasted surgery and show us where he's at

He's not a max player

I don't think Melo is either

We desperately need him to learn how to break down defenses and score in 1-on-1 ISOs. He also needs to put on solid 20lbs, but now we're playing the maybe next year game again

I think hes more valuable long term than most of the first group and a few of the more overrated guys in the 2nd group.

Id say the closest comparison is maybe Trey Murphy. An inflation adjusted version of that contract might be a good framework for a deal.

can you be more specific regarding who you think Miller is better than in the second group?

All else equal I would rather have Brandon long term than Michael Porter Jr or Mikal Bridges. I don't mean that I think he should get paid what those guy are paid because I think they are overpaid and aren't really in the same tier of player as the rest of the second group.

I see Brandon as being on the higher end of the first group. Some of the guys in the first group are also overpaid imo and make more than what Id want to pay Miller (Keegan Murray most obvious).

Near the top of that first group. The second group has such an insane range of talent some of whom are vastly overpaid. It's not inconceivable he receives MPJ money but MPJ made his contract on a 2022-27 salary cap vs Miller would be paid on the 2027-32 cap projections, so we're talking about roughly 2/3 of that impact on the salary cap.

For the record, if the Hornets offer him 5/179M and he turns it down, he's an idiot. $36M a year is what I assumed would be the sweet spot between paying him handsomely and not being too worried about it becoming bad money if he didn't improve much, prior to the shoulder surgery. That number feels like it should shift down into the lower 30s since he's losing yet another offseason of development.

Im not good at all at projecting contracts but off the top of my head I would have guessed 25-35 mil per year as his range. Hes been injured a lot and hasn't quite lived up to his talent level yet and hes a bit older than the guys in his draft class. It wouldn't surprise me much if he got more than that though.

100% the first group and not even the best one of them.

I mean if he is the 2nd or 3rd best player in Group 1 that probably means he deserves closer to Group 2, just because someone is underpaid in group 1 isn't the basis of all future contracts ie: Jalen Johnson.

but yes Miller is better than Murray, Vassell, Green, Bruan, Herro, Smith Jr, RJ and Cam Johnson- so that is over 72% of the group.

if Jalen Johnson and McDaniels hit FA today would they get group 1 or group 2 money? The answer is pretty obvious.
