So Sion might have the opportunity to develop some in the g league, or we would never have to watch Mann again.

Ayo cost a couple of seconds, what a bargain,

Also wtf Chicago, was this the best rebuilding plan you could think of?

Tbf to Ayo who has been ridiculous this series

He is kind of a weird fit. He’s certainly not a PG and although he’s a bull in transition and can go downhill, Coby actually has more on-ball juice. Much more consistent shooting off the dribble than Ayo. I think Coby’s skillset would be more valuable to this team

It’s astonishing how all they got out of Coby and Ayo was Dillingham, Sexton and some other 2nd round picks. Doubt they even resign sexton either. Wild.

He just decreased his contract offer to $12m per year.

EDIT: Posted before Diop's post. Okay, his contract offer is back up to $16m

Bobby Marks did a piece on what he would offer some of the free agents coming up. Him on Coby

The deal I'd offer: Three years, $54 million. The contract is $4 million less than the extension Andrew Nembhard signed with Indiana. The first year is $16.5 million and increases each season with a player option in the third year.

Best fits: Charlotte, Detroit

The Hornets started free agency early when they acquired White at the February trade deadline. They inherited his Bird rights, allowing them to sign him as a free agent and exceed the salary cap. Without the trade, Charlotte did not have cap space to sign the guard outright.

I would be more inclined to offer Coby 2/40 which gives him a larger AAV without committing to him long-term. Especially with so many draft picks this year and next year- chances are we can find a cheaper guard to eventually take over that 6th man type of role. Also, makes trading him as soon as next off-season a pretty realistic option as well.

I scored a signed, sewn on numbers legit and authenticated Chicago Bulls Coby White jersey at the fanatics sale a couple weeks ago. $54! Down from 349. Not too shabby. Will wear it to a Hornets game (against someone besides the Bulls) next year to be confusing.

I think Hornets want Coby back, but he is very likely to be squeezed in FA and be left with a lot of MLE type of offers.

Only Lakers, Nets, Bulls, Hawks are likely to have enough cap space to offer him over MLE and he is a questionable fit on all those teams.

Bulls just traded him.
Lakers will have Luka and Reeves.
Nets just drafted a billion guards.
Hawks are really only threat and that would require them letting both Kuminga and CJ walk to sign Coby.

I am not saying Hornets should ruin relationship with low ball, but the market is probably not a huge threat to force us to offer some huge number to him.

Bringing him back on a 3 year is fine as it allows us to use the draft picks on wings. If we are going to bring in a high money piece like Gannis or something than somebody on a rookie deal needs to take his role.

So this being the Coby White thread, figured it’s the right place to discuss reports he is drawing significant interest from other teams, and may be too expensive for the Hornets.

No wonder the Hornets do not want to give up pick 18 in any trade for Sabonis or similar. They need a guard there, and could use one even if they lose Coby. Frankly Cameron Carr would provide an ideal replacement if he’s still at 18.

I do think Jeffie’s gonna have to get his center in trade, which is why they’ve been exploring Sabonis, and now supposedly Claxton. S&T Coby for Nic? Give them a future first to boot, so we don’t lose White with no value?
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

But who could pay him? Lakers if Reeves leaves? Hawks?

What exactly is Coby White’s market?

I’m not asking for opinions of his value or what you might offer. I’m asking for his market.

If White wants to be paid like a lead guard, what is the salary range for a lead guard? If the Hornets want to fit White into a sixth starter type contract, what’s the market say about that? Is a sign and trade a real option here (the Hornets do have two trade exceptions to use)?

Is he in the same ballpark as his brudda Ayo here?

The Randle trade reduced Brooklyn's cap space to around $20m. Ayo's market was probably stronger so Coby's offers won't beat that average salary. The price to retain him is getting more affordable by the day.

Not that he was going back to Chicago, but them getting Claxton took their cap space too.

I think it's pretty likely Coby re-signs at like 15m per year. Nobody else can pay him much.
