They have picks coming out of the wazoo and a bunch of cheap young talent. Why have overpaid role players when you have guys who can fill a similar role at a much cheaper rate on a rookie deal? If you have them languishing on the bench, barely playing, then you are losing the benefit of having all these picks.

It's time to move Isiah, Dort, the bald eagle and these super subs and some picks for a frontline piece. They already have the internal depth with guys like Wallace. McCain. Get salary under control and get another impact guy. Presti is great but he needs to be aggressive this offseason for frontline guys and start to consolidate these pieces; otherwise it is going to be a repeat of Ainge.

Yeah, the "3 aging max-paid stars and no depth" model worked so great for you in Philly, or say for the Clippers, that others absolutely should try to copy it. When your "frontline pieces" become front row spectators, or just fail to fit together, there is very little you can do to fix it. OKC has plenty of pieces to shuffle around, and they don't need a revolution, fine tuning is enough to keep them up there as a contender with real chance. That is really the best you can do in the current system, dominating dynasties are a thing of the past. And I say that as a Spurs fan.

They have picks and young talent. What is the point in having players like Wallace on a rookie deal if they barely play and are blocked by guys maybe 10 percent better making 15-20M? It's just poor asset management.

Cason Wallace "barely played" the second most total minutes on the team this season. Only SGA, Chet and J-Dub played more than his ~27 mins per game. OKC wants to play at high defensive intensity, limit the minutes load and utilize a deep rotation for that purpose.
They can for sure let Dort and couple others from the bench go. Wallace should then be starting and the end of rotation will be completed by rookie contract guys. Trading actually valuable players and future picks for a nominal, more expensive upgrade of the starting five is not expected from Presti, who unfortunately does not have your talent for asset management. Caruso will be needed for the playoffs, as will Hartenstein; he was at least able to bother Wemby at times and could score over him with that rainbow push shot from 12´ occasionally; most beefy centers who could bang on Wemby in the paint to wear him down would not get a shot off in that matchup.

KAT seems to be the perfect antidote for Wemby - hes a true stretch big who can also beat Wemby off the dribble

I wonder if OKC has enough to entice NY to trade him away - Hartenstein + Mitchell/Wallace + 3 FRP?

You don't trade a guy who is either the most important or second most important player on a team in the finals for two role players and picks. I just don't see it happening. If NY loses in the final and OKC can package say JDub and 3 or 4 picks and NY can use that to go get Giannis because OKC values getting KAT more than Giannis...maybe that's a deal NY considers.

I'm not overconfident on Giannis ability to stay healthy, and I don't think he's a great pairing with SGA. If the Thunder want to upgrade, that's fine, but overpaying for Giannis isn't the answer.

TBH, OKC can try to get Scottie Barnes, but the Raptors will ask a lot in return. Or Jalen Johnson. But again cornerback stone franchise guys.

Would cost J Dub, Ajay and 4 firsts for those guys. Giannis will cost Chet and 4 firsts + salary. Muuuuch better.

lol.

Since when do you add the best overall player in the trade, your best backup guard and 4 x R1 picks…

When did these guys turn into Luka or Curry…

Jdub IS a cornerstone franchise guy himself…

I'm shocked that anyone thinks there might be even a tiny chance that the Knicks trade KAT after they win the title (assuming they hold on of course).
