Finals Debut Draft SF1 - Jon_3232 vs. Snakebites*

Post#1 » by Fadeaway_J » Sat Jun 20, 2026 11:45 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, you may post a vote by commenting to this post (notice we will not be using a poll) - all participants of the draft are invited and encouraged to post a vote, so as other regular participants of the games in the forum. You are not required to explain your vote, but you are welcome to do so if you want.

The team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance / win championship (depending on round). If a team gets 4 votes before 24 hours, then the first one to do that auto advances. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

Minimum of two human votes to decide a matchup.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

He has an elite offensive engine in Luka, and he along with Dirk is a pretty lethal duo. But I have amazing defensive versatility and the perfect counter to those two.
With Jrue Holiday and Andre Iguodala alternating the point of attack they will hound Luka for the entire series fighting through screens and using heavy ball pressure to disrupt passing lanes.
Luka may try and orchestrate pick n pop with Dirk but CB4 and Davis can seamlessly switch or hard hedge on the perimeter without giving up any rim protection. 2020 Anthony Davis is arguably the greatest switching/hedging big man of the modern era. When Dirk screens for Luka, a switch or a hard hedge from AD or Bosh completely kills the structural integrity of their offense. Because AD can recover or sit on Dirk's high-post touches, they can't easily exploit the pick-and-pop

On offense we’re going to target mismatches with Luka and Dirk, forcing them into screening actions and defending in space. Bosh can stretch the floor pulling Chandler away from the rim and creating driving lanes for Jrue and KD.

Great team, Jon.

Alrighty, lets do this. My team is built around two of the most potent offensive weapons in this competition- 2024 Luka and 2006 Dirk. These two players BOTH lost in the finals, but it's rather remarkable that they made it to begin with. Both had relatively weak supporting casts in their chosen seasons, and both were matched up against teams that were more stacked with all star level talent. Luka had Kyrie and a collection of role players and defeated the Shai/Jalen/Chet Thunder and the KAT/ANT/Rudy Timberwolves before falling to an elite Celtics team.

And Dirk? This was after Nash and before Kidd/Marion/Chandler. Him leading the Mavs to 60 wins and a Finals nod is one of the great carry jobs in NBA history, and both Dirk and Luka were fabulous in the playoffs to pair with MVP caliber regular seasons. They also fit well together, as Dirk can play in the pick and roll while also giving Luka a break, since he's also capable of generating his own offense.

As to this particular matchup, I'd argue again that I've got a superior primary star duo. KD is a guy who can definitely do his own thing (doesn't really need a playmaker to set him up), but AD is another story. He's an elite ceiling raising type player when paired with the right playmaker. You optimally utilize him with an elite pick and roll ball handler. Jrue, while a great fit alongside a self-starter like Giannis, is less optimal with AD, even if they did play together IRL- AD absolutely saw his best individual and team success alongside elite playmaking. And AD is ultimately a better ceiling raiser than he is a floor raiser, which he needs to be here to match up to the talent on my team.

Defensively, I've got enough versatility throughout the rest of my lineup, and I think that Luka/Dirk simply outproduces my opponent with support in all the right places from my supporting cast.

Not much firepower outside the leading duo, unlike Bosh and Holiday, but I like the Luka Dirk duo too much, and Snake certainly has elite balance.
