Blue Jays (38-39) vs Astros (37-42) June 22-24 - let the mid-off continue, but this time at home!

Post#1 » by Parataxis » Mon Jun 22, 2026 4:24 pm

With the remainder of the Cubs series to be finished in August, our over-worked bullpen got a needed surprise day off yesterday. Hopefully everybody got some extra time in Toronto to spend with family and the RMT, although probably not in that order.

The rotation gets an extra day of rest, and the Jays are again in the position of being a series win away from 500 - and this time weather can't interfere.

Will they do it?

Probable pitchers from MLB - will be updated when they are.

Cease/Bieber/Yesavage/Gausman is a fun top four in the rotation.

Guerrero would go in a wheelchair if he had to.

He won't make the all-star game this year.

The way the system is currently set up, a lot of Blue Jays make it to the final round, and most of them don't become starters.

One disaster outfielder (Pinango) off the roster, one to go.

Why wouldn’t the same Jays win the final round of voting when it comes down to 2, there’s more Jays fans than any other fanbase

Sanchez isnt going anywhere. If anything Davis gets sent down when Barger gets back.

Sanchez will be ditched whenever Santander makes his return at the latest. They can keep him as a bench bat once Barger returns but nothing further.

Because for the initial voting, there's 30 teams all going for 'their guy'. The Jays have a massive market and a big fanbase.

For the final voting, there's 2 teams (and two countries), and there's enough USians who resent that the Jays are overrepresented int he final that they will vote for the other guy even if he's not from their team.

100% agreed on the distinction you make between Round 1 and Round 2, where Round 1 is more favourable to the Jays.

Round 2 will be Vlad vs Ben Rice. The increased independent voters will go a few ways as per below, but overall I think the independent voters will pick Ben Rice based on #1.
1) Performance Based which favors Ben, as the gap is so large.
2) Pro US bias (helps Ben)
3) Anti-Yankee bias (helps Vlad)
4) Big Name Bias (Vlad)

It might be close enough but I think Ben Rice pulls it off.

Pinango and Sanchez were too similar and there was only 1 starting spot available for them against RHP, and no starting spots against LHP with Davis Schneider hitting and starting again. Urias has more roster utility for now than Pinango. (as Sanchez = Pinango)

It's also good for Pinango to play every day, and realize that he has to commit lots more effort to the D (hopefully with hard work he can show some improvement).

That being said I suspect Urias stay here might be quite short (if we stay healthy) as he could be the fall guy for Barger.

Hunter Brown is a tough starter. But without seeing any specific stats, it seems this team has done above expectations against good starters (be it Skenes, Schlittler, Suarez), but has been below expectations against poor starters.

25 HRs lmao. Guerrero wont even reach that number in the next 2 seasons.

Man our starting pitching has been VERY rough the past couple of week. Nothing but short outings, tons of pitches and tons of walks.
