This might not be what scouts call a great draft but this will be an elite college basketball season. My favorite to win it all is Texas.

I really liked what I saw from Catchings his freshman year at BYU and then he just didn't take the leap I expected him to at Georgia last year. Will definitely be keeping an eye on him this year though.

Also, he, Saunders and Dybantsa would have been a super solid wing trio if he had stayed at BYU.

The sooner we all accept that the NCAA is just another pro sports league now, the better we will be. I know it's a tough concept to wrap our heads around. I know I still struggle with it.

But if I'm an NBA scout, I would want no part of a guy who hangs out in college until he's 24. I want to draft someone who isn't scared of top competition. Thomas Haugh could have easily been a first round pick. It's cool he wants to hang out with his friends and beat up on 18 year olds and get paid for another year, but he's off my draft board now.

Yup college basketball and football have become pro minor leagues that just play their home games on college campuses.

NCAA is letting Brendan Sorsby play in football, even though he's bet on tons of games, including some that his team at the time played in. There are less morals there than even actual professional leagues. It's an embarrassment.

Well, let's be clear, a judge just granted him an injunction so he could play. I am not sure how a guy betting on games is not immediately deemed ineligible, but I guess his lawyers are citing a gambling addiction as the reasoning. NCAA has no power due to the courts.

Yeah, I misspoke. The NCAA isn't letting him. They're doing the right thing for once. Sorsby's lawyers found a retired judge who's a TTU fan to oversee his case, and he said he could play, because of some stupid mental health excuse. It's all a big joke.

I don't think that this is meaningful at all, that it even follows that a guy "hanging out in college until he's 24" is "scared of top competition", and strongly disagree with the idea you express in the reply. The way I see it, it's a fact that there are going to be plenty of good, draftable players who follow Haugh's path (and they already are plenty who have done this, like Zach Edey, Yaxel Lendeborg this year, and pretty much anybody who returns to school after having been mocked in a first round the year prior, which there are several drafted in the first round every year). They are just making what they see to be the best choice for them based on the feedback which they have been receiving and their lives. In fact, I think it's good for the sport, college basketball, and the development routes of players that they stay in college longer instead of being shunted into the "one-and-done" path with high levels of booming and busting.

Removing them all from your draft board is a mistake. What distinguishes what Yaxel Lendeborg and Labaron Philon, Jr.* did this year from what Haugh has done anyway? Are you gonna have either of them on your draft board?

*Especially him, who was in a very similar situation as a projected first round pick before the 2025 NBA Draft

Zach Edey was borderline undraftable as a junior. He had to work his way into a first rounder. Lendeborg was playing at UAB, not exactly a hotbed for NBA talent. He had to prove himself as a senior. And Philon is a sophomore. None of those players you mentioned are all that comparable, and their situations are totally different.

Tristan Da Silva. Bennett Stirtz. These are guys who had something to prove as seniors. Haugh doesn't. If he wants to play in the NBA, going back to school makes no sense. Haugh is not getting drafted any higher next year than he would have been this year.

Maybe the NBA is not his main goal. That's fine, but I'm not drafting him.

Doing my first mock of the 2027 cycle and man, I have a huge run on foreign born players playing in the NBA. I have...

Miikaa Muurinen
Luigi Suigo
Motiejus Krivas
Sayon Keita
Johann Grunloh
Dame Sarr
Matas Vokieaitis
Killyan Toure
Ivan Kharchenkov
Thijs De Ridder

I also have

Hugo Yimga Moukori
Stefan Joksimovic

Obviously not all of these guys are going to be good or declare or even be heard of a year from now, but it's a cool storyline to follow. Just because we aren't getting as many Euro's heading straight to the NBA, doesn't mean they still aren't taking over.

I just did my mock last night and there is a ton of foreign talent in this draft.

Guys don't sleep on Hugo Yimga Moukori, the next big thing coming from France.

- Only 17 years old, 6'8" 190lbs
- Just voted Best Young Player in France's top league Betclic Elite
- Starts for one of the better clubs in France, Nanterre, they made the semis this year.
- Season averages: 8.9ppg 61% from the field, 40% from the field in 18 minutes per game.

Vecenie 2027 Early Mock

the certainty this fraud and his ilk have about draft classes months before seeing any of the freshmen step foot on a campus or knowing who will actually be a part of the class on draft night a year from now is laughable. Based on what little I have to go on his mock is legendarily bad. He doesn't have Cam Williams or Muurinen in the top 30.

This class will look a lot better by the time of the draft. A lot of these top HS guys will return for their sophomore years and a lot of freshman bigs and returners will be at the top of the board.

I did a mock draft, but absolutely no one knows who is going to be good or not. All we have to go on is recruit rankings, and some buzz on who starters might be, this far out. There will be a few Keaton Wagler's, especially from this class. People we don't talk about who will end up as lottery picks. Anyone who thinks they know anything this far out is full of crap.

I literally don't see it with Stokes. Has every archetype of players that I rate lowly.

Bad 3 pointers in the 30's, bad FT shooters in the 50-60's, +1 aged prospect, physically oppressive player with athleticism based game, poor defender, well known on-court control issues

What is there to see? For how much I dislike AJ, Anicet is like 2x as good as Stokes in high school.

What I am most curious about is whether we'll go back to the regular era of BPM in college. This year was a huge outlier; either players are maximizing efficiency as trend drifting NBA prospect BPM upward sharply or we actually had one of the most talented draft of all times, with multiple 10+ BPM freshman scoring 20+ PPG.

Lot of buzz coming out of that camp for him. He's probably in the mix for #1 simply because the American prospects have so many question marks at this stage.

People bring up Stokes, but the real issue seems to be his lacks maturity. Having a great season at Kansas (coming off last season's debacle) could go a long way to dispelling those concerns.

Joksimovic is a really smooth athlete for his size. But before the hype train gets going....his ceiling and style of play is more Avdija than Doncic if we have to do the obligatory euro comparisons.

Thijs De Ridder and Senande Fru were both auto eligible for the draft before they were in college, so neither can actually be drafted in the future, they will just be free agents.

If he can shoot he looks like one of the more interesting prospects this year.
