Giannis Draft - R1 - Dr Positivity* vs Jon_3232

Post#1 » by durantbird » Wed Jul 1, 2026 9:04 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, you may post a vote by commenting to this post (notice we will not be using a poll) - all participants of the draft are invited and encouraged to post a vote, so as other regular participants of the games in the forum. You are not required to explain your vote, but you are welcome to do so if you want.

First to 4 votes advances. There is no AI vote when the host is playing in the matchup.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

PG - Tyrese Haliburton (2025 - 13.8 FGA) (category 8 - Giannis opponent)
SG - Manu Ginobili (2005 - 10.5 FGA) (category 2 - 10+ years franchise)
SF - Kawhi Leonard (2017 - 17.7 FGA) (category 1 - non lotto)
PF - Pascal Siakam (2019 - 11.8 FGA) (category 4 - small scale international country)
C - Karl-Anthony Towns (2026 - 13.8 FGA) (category 5 - won first finals)

SG/SF - Jaden McDaniels (2023 - 9.1 FGA) (category 3 - brother)
SF - Nicolas Batum (2025 - 3.1 FGA) (category 6 - non USA college)
PF/C - Serge Ibaka (2012 - 7.4 FGA) (category 7 - Giannis teammate)

87.2 / 88

PG - Tyrese Haliburton (38) / Manu Ginobili (10)
SG - Manu Ginobili (22) / Jaden McDaniels (26)
SF - Kawhi Leonard (38) / Jaden McDaniels (8) / Nic Batum (8)
PF - Pascal Siakam (36) / Serge Ibaka (12)
C - Karl-Anthony Towns (38) / Serge Ibaka (10)

GL Jon

Defensive matchups - Hali on Tucker, Siakam on Durant, Manu on Miller, Kawhi on Doncic, Towns on Embiid

- While Siakam on Durant is meh, note that he also has Doncic and 2000 Miller's defense against Hali and Manu. We have a great defensive wing in McDaniels playing 34 minutes.

- He has a high powered big 3 in Doncic, Durant, Embiid but his bench is troubling with Rollins (in 2025 bench role), Caleb Martin, the 2026 version not the ECF swinging one, and Cavs Big Ben, who has half his minutes at PF. Ibaka and McDaniels are great bench players and Batum also useful enough for 8 minutes.

Overall there is only one ball for Doncic, Durant and Embiid and while his starting lineup will be effective, we have 5 all star unit with great mix of off ball play. Haliburton and Manu are a perfect fit and with Kawhi are more balanced offense/defense than Doncic, Miller and Durant. Siakam is an advantage over Tucker especially on a team with Hali, and can Towns can cause Embiid problems by stretching him out. Our huge bench advantage takes us over the top.

Defensive assignments will be

- Luka on Siakam, he takes on the weakest perimeter shooting threat. Siakam is great in transition but Luka has the lower body strength to hold his ground in post up situations.
- Tucker on Kawhi
- Reggie on Haliburton, Reggie’s job won’t be to stop Hali’s distributing but to use his length to contest his set shot 3’s and chase him over screens
- Durant on Manu, KDs length is perfect to disrupt Manus chaotic slashing, he can sag off a bit to guard the drive and still use his wingspan to contest a shot
- Embiid on KAT, KAT will try and pull Embiid outta the pain but Embiid will play a “soft drop” coverage, concedes the above the break three to him if necessary but completely shut down drives from Hali and Manu.

On Offense we are on another level compared to our opponent. We have an almost unguardable pnr duo with Embiid and Luka, and arguably the best release valve in KD. Miller adds movement and shooting that doesn’t allow any of our guys to be doubled.

We have to try and completely dismantle Dr Ps defense, my offense must bypass Kawhi and Siakam by relentlessly hunting his weakest links through screen navigation. Instead of forcing Luka to isolate against Kawhi, Tucker will come up to set high ball screens, forcing Haliburton out of his defensive hiding spot and creating a mismatch where Luka can physically overpower him. Simultaneously, well weaponize Reggie’s off-ball movement by running him through staggered baseline screens set by Embiid, this forces a gambling Manu to chase him through a maze, which quickly KAT out of the paint to contest the shot and opens up easy rim-runs for Embiid. By spacing Durant out on an empty weak-side wing to freeze Siakam one-on-one without any available help defense behind him, we can exploit his man-to-man coverage, turn their best perimeter stoppers into passive bystanders, and consistently force his weaker defenders to make the critical stop

I don't think Jon's backcourt is viable defensively, and I see Embiid-Luka as a pairing that will be less than the sum of its parts offensively (although it's not like Jon is going to struggle there anyway). The bench disparity is hard to overlook as well.

No votes for Luka, KD, and Embiid is ridiculous for me
I still think that on a matchup prime Embiid gets the upper hand with his better defense, Luka is lethal offensive and will get some going even with kawhi, KD will be the main unanswered question
