Bill Armstrong explains that there’s no hard feelings between the Mammoth, Hayton, or Devils:

“It’s just business. Players want to get paid, they want to make as much money as they can in their lifetime, we get it. There's no hard feelings between us and New Jersey. We called them and said we’re going to match. There’s no hard feelings between the club and Barrett Hayton.”

“We have really good relationships with the players, the player's agent, and also New Jersey. There's no hard feelings. It's just doing business, and it's a part of the NHL, it's a part of the CBA. We have to respect the process.”

Makes sense for them to not abandon this current core, but man their GM fuked up if it was possible to sign him to like 10 million a year before last season, at the time a big price for what he had proven but have to pay for potential.

Postmedia has learned Vancouver is Wright’s preferred destination because of what the club could become in a few years. Those who know him are convinced he might be the most misunderstood player in the NHL.

Wright has a year remaining on his entry-level deal at $886,666 US before becoming a restricted free agent. There is incentive to produce and contribute to the rebuild, and if he does, the Canucks can lock him up.
