Milw-GS

Post#1 » by pipfan » Tue Jul 28, 2026 7:28 am

Assumption here is GS wants to upgrade their team now, and Milw wants to build for the future

Milw sends Herro/Turner/JJJ to GS for Butler/Yaxel (once he can be traded, I think in Sept)

GS adds a real 2 guard to help Curry, a playable stretch C and the runner up to 6MoY to their core. They need depth and real talent, and this adds that

Milw saves a ton of $ long term and adds a perfect PF prospect to go with their young core of Burries/Ament/Ware/Rollins/Dieng/KJ, and they'd have major 2027 cap space with this deal too

Signed first round picks can be traded 30 days after the contract signing. In Yaxel's case, it would be July 31st. That said, I don't see the Warriors trading him.

I'm not seeing the Warriors part with Yaxel at this point. He's the perfect intersection of youth and "already good" enough to where they probably value him as a big win-now piece on a cheap contract for the next 4-years. I do like the framework of something like this though. Take out Yaxel and Jaime Jaquez, and Herro + Turner for Jimmy's expiring contract and draft assets makes more sense IMO. Entirely depends on how much Golden State is willing to part with to maximize the Curry window these last 2-3 years though. I personally wouldn't settle for anything less than two firsts.

Good proposal. Value fit and direction all seem right. I think I'm just too irrationally enamored with Yaxel (and the idea of Butler coming back sometime in January)

Depending on what picks/protection, I could get behind this.

Idk it’s hard to argue that GS wouldn’t be in a way better situation this coming season adding 3 big contributors for a rookie & a guy who won’t play most of the season coming off a serious injury. Comes down to whether or not GS wants to go all in with Curry in the twilight of his career or to begin building for the future.

I really liked Yaxel before the draft and showing out in SL. I always thought the age think was being made into too big of a deal so yeah I’d love to have him with our young core.

But yes we’ve kicked around the idea of Butler on the Bucks board a bit, pretty split opinion but Ron Swanson & me were intrigued by it.

Can we include Kuzma too?

I figure the Bucks could also use a young leader, and Yaxel seems like the type. Ware/Yaxel/Ament/Burries/Rollins is a pretty nice looking young core, with Dieng still possibly working out too. Maybe they even keep Butler (he went to Marquette) and he comes back at the end of the year to rehab/lead the kids

For GS, it's hard to give up Yaxel, but if they want to win this year, adding Herro/Turner/JJJ over having Yaxel is a huge plus

I like it.
GS could add Moody (not sure how bad his injury is) and pick up another piece.
Milwaukee has a trio to build around.

Butler could take a buyout and not even leave. Come back on one year minimum.

Regardless of the value I think giving up Yaxel and dealing with Kuzma might be too much to bear

I don’t think I’d trade Yaxel for the trio, though the value seems good overall. I’d just hold out hope on Butler and keep Yaxel. Similar to the Dallas ideas with Gaff/PJ/etc..

I would look at something a lot smaller around Moody and JJJ though? Feel like that’s not quite the 2027 first since GSW isn’t going to be very good, but it’s close. Could just be top 11 protected for two years, if you’re paying a bit to dump Moody.. not sure what balances it coming back to GSW.

Not sure Milwaukee should really want to trade JJJ though, expect he’ll be a fan favorite very early in the season..

Don’t think your idea checks the boxes for the Bucks. They pick up a mid asset in a protected FRP but the Bucks would have zero interest in Moody as a player, this only makes the bucks positional logjam worse.

Moses Moody likely isn't returning to play this season (2026-2027) and then will be an expiring contract to utilize as an asset next off-season.

There is no relevance to positional log jam.

Can’t see the Warriors trading Yaxel and would be loathe to trade Jimmy. It is the kind of deal for depth they should make. Problem is a depth deal would be done with the idea of holding out long enough for Jimmy to get back.

If anything it alleviates the supposed log jam..

I like JJJ more than most I think, but a protected first with a pretty good chance of conveying is best case value for him imo.

GS if pushing:
Yaxel 6.2
Moody 12.5
Butler 56.8
Future picks.

Reunite Splash Brothers
Mil gets Yax and Butler
Dallas gets Herro and Moody
GS gets Klay, PJ, CMartin and Turner
Dallas adds a shooter. Milwaukee gets Yax.
GS reunion.
Picks added?

Also, could see a wink wink quick butler buyout. Butler could resign with gs later. Milwaukee would save money since Butler would be getting what he wants which would be resigning with gs.

Warriors better off investing in Yax than trading for PJ. The Klay reunion is an overrated angle considering no one would want it less than Klay himself.

Intrigued by the GS/Bucks angle, just don’t see how to make the numbers work without Jimmy and it makes much less sense with him involved. Darn Stern cleaning up the “trade/buyout/ re-sign with the team that traded you” rules.

Some type of deal around GS/DEN/MKE could make sense for everyone.
Bucks end up with Yaxel and Watson and whatever bad salary required
GS ends up with Herro, JJJ, Turner
DEN gets Jaku, salary relief (even if expiring), TPE from MKE and some minor assets

Making the salary work (not to mention they’d likely throw a pick or two in over Yaxel) is the issue. If GS tries to make it work without Jimmy, would need to put in KP, Moody, Dray and maybe Podz. Dray means it likely don’t happen till December

Could it be arranged where it is done in two deals, where Butler is moved from MKE to DEN with an agreement he would be bought out and able to return to GS on a min deal?
