Portland receive: Toppin, MIA 2027 LP 1st

Charlotte trade: DFS, Kalkbrenner, MIA 2027 LP 1st
Charlotte receive: Scoot, Huff

Indiana trade: Toppin, Huff
Indiana receive: DFS, Kalkbrenner

Why for Indiana: Exchange Toppins with a defensive forward familiar with Carlisle and upgrade backup C. Save money next year
Why for Charlotte: See if Scoot can be PGOF
Why for Portland: Add a much needed spacing 3rd forward for their rotation and a pick

I think Indy would just prefer keeping Obi over swapping him for DFS? Obi has earned Carlisle's trust in this system. As for the Kalkbrenner vs. Huff swap, Kalk may be better in a vacuum, but Huff is the situational stretch C now that Potter is gone, too. I think rim protections is pretty comparable, but Kalk is pretty tethered to the rim offensively, whereas Huff offers something different from Kalk (and Zubac) to switch it up?

Value wise, it's very fine. It's just the fits?

Pacer management has said they like their top 7 and that's the starters plus Toppin and McConnell. I don't see them trading any of the 7. If they do make a trade, I'd expect Walker or Sheppard to be moved for payroll relief.

What does Scoot do for Indy? Leaving aside he's been a bust, at his actualized form he would be an average backup PG. Does Indy need that? or need that so badly that they should give up a rotation player plus a FRP to pay $14 million for that (or, rather, a chance at that)?

yeah my bad should've quoted. Indy's PG depth is about as solid as it gets so they just shouldn't take a flyer on a 14 million dollar PG lottery ticket.

I think the Pacers probably prefer Huff to Kalkbrenner and the Hornets may prefer Kalkbrenner to Huff given the runway each team has.

Then you get into whether the Blazers might prefer an expiring (if they so choose) DFS on a smaller deal over Toppin on his two-year deal due to their cap situation, and I'm just not sure the Pacers need to be in this trade.

This is not terrible but I do like Toppin and I like Huff a lot as a back up center, he did a great job last season blocking shots and has a pretty good 3 pt shot. His 1.9 blocks per game and 32% 3 pt shot makes him a pretty nice back up to have for 16-20 min per game.

I think Kalkbrenner would be similar to Huff maybe better, but I do like Toppin better than DFS at this point in his career.

So I'd have to decline this.

Pacers may do something by the deadline for Walker and or Sheppard but we'll have to wait for that. I think the Pacers are pretty much set for their roster.
