The takes are pretty polarizing here. Mobley is now considered an albatross contract and Amen is an average prospect? Yeah ok.

Mobley is the better defender, and at least a passable three point shooter, made an All-NBA team and is only 18 months older right? Plus Amen will get a new contract next summer?

I like both, but at the moment I see Mobley as a legitimate 2-way player who also happens to be a DPOY who can defend his and help out for others.

Thompson is elite POA, he obviously has some Andre Iguodala to his game, but without a consistent offensive weapon he is limited, ceiling is capped. At present Thompsons peak is Mobley's floor.

I suppose both sides like their guys though....

Sorry but no he's not. I don't think Amen is ever as good as Mobley is right now.

As they should. Every team would love to have either in my opinion.

It's funny that nobody understands how good Amen is. I will enjoy people start to understand over the next few years.

Mobley is at best a third option on the Cavs, and this is his contract for the next 4 years.

$50,105,628
$53,817,156
$57,528,684
$61,240,212

If he were traded to the Rockets, he would still be at least a third option or possibly a 4th option if Durant, Sengun & Amen are all still on the team.

People need to look at contracts before they propose trades.

Luka and Jaylen Brown are both much better than Mobley, and they both got traded because their teams didn't want to pay them.
A day or two before Brown was traded, Celtics fans said he was worth Amen plus multiple picks.
How did that work out?
Contracts matter these days.

And if Thompson is half as good as you think, he comes with an implied max extension attached, which is going to look really terrible if he never learns to shoot.

Ok so IF the Rockets overpay him and IF he doesn’t learn to shoot better.

Now you can address the current (as in, this is actually happening in reality now, not a possible future maybe) contract of Mobley.

Or you can just IF, IF, IF all day.

You can't have it both ways, Thompson can't be better than Mobley while simultaneously not worth a max rookie extension.

Well it's a Mobley vs Amen discussion, not saying Amen is bad, he's an All Star level prospec. You might be lower on Mobley than me to the same level I'm lower on Amen than Mobley.

Mobley was the best player on the Cavs in their run to ECF just recently.
He's an off-ball impact player above that of Amen. Amen is in that in-between where he's not good enough on-ball to lead an offense but not great off-ball. His best chance at being elite impact is a Draymond Green type role, requires a specific setup.

His offensive efficiency relies on plays that dry up in the playoffs, it's hard to see him being an efficient offensive option in the playoffs. Maybe it happens but he's yet to show it.

First off, Amen is in the deal if it brings back Mobley.

Second, yes, Mobley has not been outstanding on offense, he has been good and he can play within a system. He is Miami Bosh-like on offense. On DEFENSE is where he shines. Not just on his man, but to be an anchor to a team defense. He isn't Wemby, but he could end his career with more DPOY awards than Wemby (65 games).

to your other point not quoted here -- there are more IFS on your end of the table. What is reasonable to expect is marginal improvement. Also, as we are seeing, these kids all think they are worth the world.
The contention is that if Amen thinks he is a star, he will ask for the 25% max. Either he is offered that by the Rockets and now you have the 25% max guy who is a non-shooter, basically Josh Hart on offense OR Houston does not offer him the deal he wants, it gets ugly, there are talks of sign and trade, at best a Kuminga type deal manifests or he just plays for the QO and sits out every tummy ache and walks away for free.

Don't let me tell you which track it goes down, but those are the probable paths.
The LEAST likely (but I would be happy if it did, I want him to be great) would be that he is a competent shooter at least in one spot (elbow, corner, something) and he breaks 80% from FT.

Again, great player. I liken both brothers to Iguodala to some extent, you could call them small Giannis, but not someone you typically pay a max contract to.

First off, THE ROCKETS ARE NOT TRADING AMEN FOR AN ALBATROSS CONTRACT.

Didn't read the rest.

Y’all need to give it up.

The Rockets (and most other teams) have no interest in paying a third option $60 million a year.

Alternate offer enters the chat: Pelicans and Mavs have a 3-team deal construction for Cavs to turn Mobley's max into multiple win-now forwards. Picks needed?

CLE sends: Mobley + one of Shroder/Strus/Merrill
CLE gets: Murphy III + PJ Washington + Herb Jones

DAL sends: PJ Washington
DAL gets: one of Schroder/Strus/Merrill (+ pick?)

NOP sends: Murphy + Herb (+ ___)
NOP gets: Mobley

Evan "defensive anchor" Mobley.... while Cleveland has had a worse defense than Houston the past two seasons.

As KOD said, its not finding the right value to trade for Mobley, I wouldn't take him for free.

He is about 15-20m per year overpaid, a death knell for any team trying to build a championship contending roster.

Much like TMIII, people are in love with the archetype, and failing to see the player.

No idea, Stone has been strong so far on contracts.

We are all waiting to see what the extension is.

Amen is amazing driving the ball and getting offensive rebounds. Defense is also amazing.
But, that 21 percent three point shooting is a huge flaw in his game. If he gets it over 30 percent then he is worth max. If he doesn’t improve it then he isn’t really a max player.
