That's what a team with no money to work with and no draft picks to trade does.

I've said a hundred times on this board that Denver isn't trading Murray and/or Gordon, because their return package would not be all that good, and would make Denver a worse team. Same with Braun. The MPJ trade was all they could really do, and only because they had that one first round pick to attach. They're stuck with what they have. Unfortunately.

Edit: I'm not in love with Denver's roster or several moves they have made in the past. But, their one thing is to keep Peyton Watson. Other than that, they still have Jokic, and before the injuries piled up they were on pace for 55 or so wins. No team this decade has won more games than they have, other than Boston. Before this most recent stinker, they were 7 game outs. They remain a top five team in this league. Maybe not quite top five, but close. Before the playoffs started, I doubt many people would have said the Knicks were a better team than the Nuggets. So, Denver almost has to stick with what they have, hope that Gordon can get through the playoffs, and hope they can get the right matchups and get hot when it matters. That's really what the playoffs are all about these days.

Are they the favorites? No. But the Knicks weren't last year, but they ended up being the best team at the right time. With this new CBA, that's really all you can hope for. And moving Murray or Gordon would make them a worse team, right now, and that's really all you can think about. It's almost impossible to build a sustained winner. Just gotta go for broke, year by year.

Watson is the ballgame for Denver but even with him this team looks quite a bit worse on paper. The bench is maybe one of the worst among contenders?

My read is that Walker maybe a Dollor Store replacement for Watson.

I really liked the Bagley signing at the vet minimum. I suspect that's below market and he was just tired of playing on bad teams.

Watson definitely determines the level of failure for this offseason. If he resigns long-term on a reasonable deal then Denver did okay and they will have more flexibility at the deadline and next offseason. If he takes the QO they are screwed. If they do a sign and trade then their depth gets even worse b/c they can't take back any salary.

If you lose maybe your fourth best player and your improvements are 3rd string guys.. it’s bad.

If they land a couple cheap rotation pieces (Memphis guys) and dump Nnaji to stay under second apron in a Watson sign and trade - I think that’s fine and understandable.

Probably. I've been reading a lot of "Watson to Milwaukee" trade rumors lately. Honestly, I love Watson, but giving him 25-28 mill a year would be even more crippling. They might need to just bite the bullet, get someone like AJ Green and a draft pick or two, wish Watson well, and move on.
