Poeltl isn't a bad contract

Poeltl is somewhere around 70th most expensive contract and he is not a top 100 player….so I mean it’s not a good contract.

At the start of 25-26 season he was on top 100 list for espn and bleachers report. Its common for salary to out pace player ranking for non max players due to rookie scale contracts. More accurate picture is comparing to other Centers' non rookie scale contract and his salary is in line with his peers if healthy, as suggested by the top 100 list at start of last year

If he is Healthy….thats the catch and he hasn’t been for a while. It doesn’t seem to me that he will get back to the player he was a couple years ago. Thats a lot of money for a part time center.

He was on pace for 65+ games and would've played more than 30mpg last year without resting/tanking. This recent back injury is new and wasnt an issue last few years

Those 2016 contracts are bad comparisons because they were relics from before the full acceptance of the Curry revolution. All of those contracts were signed back when teams still thought that having a big goon at center was necessary. But once the Death Lineup played slow centers off the floor, all those big contracts became terrible contracts. Nowadays, unskilled goon centers can be useful to get through the regular season grind, but they get played off the floor in the playoffs. You pay those guys MLE money (8.5% of the cap), not 16% of the cap.

Poeltl should be paid about what guys like Mitchell Robinson, Wendell Carter Jr., Jock Landale, Steven Adams and Mark Willliams get paid.

Poeltl is not an appreciating asset and was not durable last season which makes him a negative value contract. His $19.5 million cap his for this upcoming season is fine but his extension should have been 2 years, $45 million beyond 2026-2027 season. ($21.5/$23.5) tops. Webster should have been more aware of the age Poeltl was reaching, his inability to shot 3s, block shots and defend the pick and roll coupled with his durability. He's a viable starting centre but his value has peaked in terms of impact/production.
