[Charania] The Minnesota Timberwolves are trading Josh Green and cash to the Utah Jazz for Cody Williams and John Konchar, sources tell ESPN.

Good luck to Cody, has some interesting physical tools but still extremely bad at skills he needs to have. I suspect Konchar is the best player in this deal, hope he lands somewhere.

The more I think about this the happier I am; watching Cody Williams was absolute misery. Clearly we thought he had no role on the team, so it is good to find him somewhere to go.

Good business by the Jazz, Green isn't 14.6M player, but he's still a good bench player.
Not sure why the Wolves are stretching Konchar, they have room to sign a vet min player at the end of February, they can waive him and not incur any cap penalties next year.

Green is a 40% 3pt shooter who's athletic and runs the fastbreak well, Konchar is a non-spacer, Green was 18 MPG player in the 24 Mavs finals team, Konchar barely played on the weaker Grizz teams...

I wonder if Konchar being waived is a combination of:
1) can save a few tax dollars for the owners
2) get a vet in on the 15th spot who can fill the Ingles role of locker room guy/ not going to play
3) doing konchar/his agent a favor of letting the guy go find a situation he might be able to crack a rotation vs being a 30 yr old FA who didn't play all year as a FA next year. Was very unlikely in MN based on the backcourt depth and the bench guys were mostly returning players the coaches already have familiarity with. Not ideal timing to try and find that now, but gives them a chance.

Williams seems to suck at team basketball so can't imagine he plays more than garbage time. Would be surprised if they pick up that option.

I agree. With limited picks, maybe Connelly is hoping to find another young upside player like NAW?

Williams is guaranteed for next year, Konchar isn't that's why he's the one getting stretched.

He's also the player less likely to clear waivers and/or get signed to another contract which would offset whatever money is owed by the Wolves.

Cody’s 4th year option hasn’t been acted upon yet (deadline is 10/31 I believe), so he’s not guaranteed for next season yet.

Only if they waived a player, and went down to 13 on the roster. They were at 14 on the roster with Kuminga and about $2 mil over, so they swap Green for Cody Williams to remain at 14. I believe they would have saved just enough to make the deal without waiving Konchar, but they’d have been right up against the hardcap.
