I have him worth about 25. He should definitely take the 35.

A very possible scenario for him is he takes the QO, and Detroit decides he is no longer part of thier future and they play him less, and he has a "bad / underutilized year", and then even less money is available for him next offseason.

Being $5.6 mil player Paul Reed outplayed him in the Playoffs and played great last season, I could see his minutes reduced at times. In all actuality, by not taking the 4 year max this past summer, he would make less over the next 5 years in Salary per year than signing a deal outright this summer. He wants more, but won't get it. If he took the QO and then signed a Max deal next summer, he would make $186 mil plus the QO $9.6 mil offer, that would be $196.5 mil for 5 years making $39.5 mil per year. He should have gotten some team to pay him anything more than 4 year $160 mil this past summer, but nobody was interested. He would have to really improve this summer for some team to give him $40 mil or more per or more next summer aka 4 year $160mil-plus but would make less over 5 years with the QO averaging 34 mil per. Pistons just have to match that and if he doesn't accept, raise it to $200-205 mil over 5 years. I think the PIstons should offer him a 2 year $80mil so he has incentive to get better for the next contract. If he leaves after those 2 years, then Pistons would have possible cap space or sign and trade him then. They would still have their next 5 years of 1sts as trade assets to get a replacement. Hence, my opinion why the Pistons can play the long game.

There's definitely a part of me that thinks Sabonis, with two seasons left on his deal, was too quickly dismissed as an option. Especially if the Pistons could've pulled a pick out of the Kings in a S&T.

Sabonis makes way too much. With BYC, pistons can only take back half of what duren would sign for. So even if kings gave him $44mil, they can only take back $22mil

Sabonis makes way too much. With BYC, pistons can only take back half of what duren would sign for. So even if kings gave him $44mil, they can only take back $22mil

At the start of the summer there were ways to address that by the Kings sending out salary to a third team.

Why would Detroit give him 1/30 instead of making him play on the QO?
