Dallas added Risacher for cheap, sending only Ryan Nembhard back to the Hawks and a 2027 second-rounder to the Oklahoma City Thunder. It was the ideal low-risk, high-reward trade, but there may be more upside here than meets the eye.

As a former first-overall pick, there's much more potential than Risacher has shown thus far in his career. Of course, two side notes: The 2024 NBA Draft wasn't exactly brimming with talent, as Risacher would have likely gone five-to-10 in several other drafts. Moreover, Atlanta landed the first-overall pick after jumping from 10th to first, adding Risacher to an already veteran-laden roster. Thus, the odds weren't necessarily in his favor.

But now, in a rebuilding atmosphere in Dallas, Risacher should get a much longer look. It must be noted that the Mavericks are loaded on the wing, and there's no guarantee Risacher will even start. Nevertheless, the opportunity is there, and Dallas was adamant about trading for Risacher, highlighting their belief in the former first-overall selection.

A fresh, new opportunity, paired with the Mavericks' admiration for Risacher, is an early indicator that the 6-foot-8 wing could be in line for a potential Most Improved Player campaign. Of course, he still needs the production to back it up, but Risacher has a rather obvious bounce-back case.

Wouldn't that be something.
I think I'll be watching more Wizards, Mavericks and Wolves games this season . Usually once players move on I do very limited cursory checks on how they are doing.
