Russ Adams in best shape of his career

Post#1 » by jalenrose#5 » Mon Feb 18, 2008 11:03 pm

Who do you think will be the biggest surprise for the Blue Jays at Spring Training this year?

Well, that's a difficult thing to predict, but I can say from being in camp these first few days that Russ Adams arrived in terrific shape. He looks like he's added muscle and he certainly has a lot to prove -- going from Toronto's starting shortstop in 2006 to a Minor League utilityman now.

The way things currently stack up, there's no room for Adams on the roster with the presence of infielders David Eckstein, John McDonald and Marco Scutaro. That doesn't mean Adams, who would provide a left-handed bat off the bench, won't try to state his case for a job

I dunno, I've always been a fan of this kid's bat and having him on the bench as a lefty bat is something of use. All the players that are supposedly ahead of him (Mac and Scutaro) can play all 3 infield positions (3rd/2nd/SS) and i think he could surprise alot of people. There was no denying that this kid has a decent bat, it's just the defense that was the HUGE question.

I'm rooting for Russ this ST and I hope he makes a dent somehow

Being in shape is one thing, being able to field a ground ball and throw it to first is another.

So now he's going to be in shape AND useless?

Honestly, it was a terrible draft pick and we have to get over it. He is not a major league player.

A baseball player being in shape doesn't make that much of a difference. What Russ has to improve are the basics, Fielding, hitting, throwing etc.

Best players in baseball are out of shape.
