about this because everyone destroys Colon now. -Jitpal
Slamm Goodbody wrote:^ Agreed. I don't know what he has left in the tank, but an offseason and a fresh start can do wonders for any pitcher, let alone a former Cy Young winner. I know his velocity has decreased but there's a chance he can still get it together. He wouldn't have fit in here for opening day because of our surplus of starting pitchers, but as an insurance policy he's not a bad gamble.

no way, much rather give some1 from our farm a start than colon.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'd feel more comfortable having a guy who has done it before in a reserve role as a 7th starter in case we get hit with a rash of injuries ala the beginning of last season - when we were forced to cycle never was mediocre guys like Karstens and Rasner into the rotation.

We do need guys who have proven they can win. Until they have proven otherwise we already have 3 question marks in our rotation already. I am damned excited about those young guys but come on man. Whats so horrible about signing a former Cy young award winner to a cheap low risk high reward deal? I like this youth movement as much as anybody but some people are going a little crazy with it.

Haven't we gone the route of "track record" and "past cy young winner" and "veteran" the past 5 years? Kevin Brown? Randy Johnson? Roger Clemens? Give me the talented, hungry guys...whether they're 21 or 41.

Isn't there a difference between expensive again former Cy Young award winners and Bartolo Colon?
