MLB's most skilled player

Post#1 » by Griff83 » Thu Mar 13, 2008 5:30 pm

who do you think would be ranked as the #1 overall skilled player in the league? So youd taken all the different aspects into account.

hitting, Power, speed, fielding, arm.

I'd think Albert Pujols, Jose Reyes or Hanley Ramirez

A-Rod

His 162 game averages

.306 avg 44 HR 128 RBI 128 R 191 H 23 Stl .389 OBP .578 SLG .967 OPS

He's:
-hit more than 50 HR 3 time, hit more than 40 8 times, and led the AL in HR 5 times
- driven in more than 150 runs and the led the league in RBI twice
- led the league in runs 5 times
- led the league in total bases 4 times
- hit 50 doubles, which led the league
- had a 40-40 season
- won a batting title
- gotten 200 hits 3 times, and led the league once
- slugged over .600 7 times
- finished with an OPS over 1.000 6 times
- won multiple gold gloves at the toughest defensive position
- a 3 time MVP winner(finsihed 2nd twice as well)
- and a 10 time all star
- a 9 time silver slugger winner.

He's done pretty much every thing statistically, there may not be one single thing where A-Rod hasn't had at least one huge season.

Puhols is a great hitter but pretty one-dimensional in the field and not especially fast.

ARod is the first person that jumps to mind. He was a gold-glove caliber shortstop with a great arm, hits for average and power and could always run. He might have the best package of skills ever seen on an MLB player.

Barry in his prime was that type of player too. He could have played CF if he wanted too.

And people always talk about how Ichiro could hit for power if he wanted too and hits balls out for fun during BP. He shows everything else on a daily basis.

Interesting stuff right there Griff, the only category in which Ichiro isn't great is the homers but I often hear that if he wanted he could hit 30+ every season but that it's just not his game. Whether it's true or not Ichiro is a beast!

A-Rod is the most skilled player IMO. Even though young players like Reyes, Ramirez and Wright are up there too, being great all-around athletes.

Vladimir Guerrero was one of the best all-around skilled players.

Guerrero may not come close to Rodriguez's production (the meat and potatoes of HR, RBIs and Runs) but he actually is 20 points ahead of Rodriguez in career .AVG and ahead of Rodriguez in career .OBP, .SLG, and .OPS.

Guerrero was a monster back in those Expos days and was the epitome of "five-tool".

Agreed, when I saw this topic I immediately thought about Vlad. But since he doesn't steal bases anymore I thought it wouldn't be right to pick him. He sure still is a great hitter and has a cannon arm.

The season he came 1 HR short of the 40/40 club, he was the best in the league. But nobody would care since he was playing for the Expos...

Right now its A-Rod.

Bonds in his thinner prime was likely THE most all around skilled player, perhaps close to ever.

I have a soft spot for Griffey, especially the Seattle version.

In the coming years, I wouldnt be surprised to see David Wright get some votes.

I am really surprised that we have this many posts, and there havent been any homers saying Rios. Ahhh, the lovely difference between the Jays and Raps boards.
