Caberera signs, Granderson down

Post#1 » by m23uza1hem36 » Sun Mar 23, 2008 5:41 pm

A report on RealGm has said he has been placed on a 15-day DL but a report on FSN Detroit is he has a *broken hand* not finger and will only two weeks.

On the other hand Miguel Cabrera signs a 8 year/$153 million dollar deal.

I'll update on Granderson later today. To get the official injury.

Broken finger on his right hand, he'll be out three weeks. Inge will start in CF in his place. Renteria will lead-off and Inge will bat 7th until Granderson comes back. He'll likely only miss the first week of the season.

We needed to sign Miguel long term, it was of the utmost importance. A one year rental for all our best prospects would have been terrible. Now we have him through his entire prime, and while expensive, it was necessary

I always had faith that theyd get a deal done with Cabrera. They wouldn't have given up what they did unless they really meant business with this guy.

He's ours for the entire peak of his career unless we're dumb enough to trade him. For a third baseman that young who's capable of those kinds of stats, it should be worth it.

I'm not TOO worried about Granderson.....yet.

Our offense should be able to get going without him, and temporarily we'll survive out in the field as well IMO. If he only misses the first week, its a drop in the ocean.

The season is getting awfully close. Can't wait to see Cabrera and the other new adds in action....

There is likely no bullpen arm worth getting. We need a dominator/fireman/stopper and none of those types are available. We'll likely overpay for a mediocre middle reliever at this point. Might as well guy try and make go with what we got for the time being.

^Sigh, your right at this point.

Not much to do but a combination of hoping to get the starters out while riding big leads as much as possible and hoping some guys in the pen perform better than expected.

We aren't going to get any easy relief help at this point in the season, but I'm sure Dave will try.

Maybe sometime midseason a team out of contention will be looking to unload someone. Till then, just hope the horrid bullpen doesn't cause us to be inclined to overwork starters.
