Rate MY Team

Post#1 » by studcrackers » Mon Mar 24, 2008 6:30 am

alright this isnt just any rating of teams, its MY team and since this is the only league I'm in this year its important not to mention i have a 3 way bet on who will go farther in the league.

it was a 10 person league and i had the 10th pick, the categories are:

R, H, HR, RBI, SB, BB, AVG, OBP, OPS, W, L, CG, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, K/9, Min. 30 innings pitched

23 people per team w/2 sp's 2 rp's and 3 P's and just OF not CF, RF, LF

heres the team

1. Johan Santanna
2. Prince Fielder
3. Erik Bedard
4. Victor Martinez
5. Chipper Jones
6. Carlos Guillen
7. Takashi Saito
8. Corey Hart
9. Howie Kendrick
10. Tim Lincecum
11. Jason Bay
12. Joba Chamberlain
13. Josh Hamilton
14. Carlos Marmol
15. Paul Konerko
16. Ian Snell
17. Josh Fields
18. Rickie Weeks
19. Jack Cust
20. Rich Harden
21. Johnathan Broxton
22. Jason Giambi
23. Frank Thomas

Strengths: I have the best pitching in the league by far, you may think that i have to many pitchers but the strategy thats led me to do so well is having the best relievers in the league and there are really a ton of them that didnt even get drafted. the last couple years ive actually looked at my rosters and switched them day in and day out and my pitching always dominates b/c my relievers do so well. only problem i could be looking at are saves. I couldve taken a guy like scot shields but i wanted to take frank thomas b/c i like him.

weaknesses: my offense could be pretty weak, hopefully chipper puts up a year like he did last year and prince needs to be almost better then last year, i got some power guys near the end of the draft like josh hamilton, jack cust (both were probably overdrafted b/c i like them) konerko, giambi and thomas. i also need a bounceback year from jason bay and corey hart to continue improving and get driven in tons by fielder and braun.

I generally try to avoid set up men on my fantasy team, so I wouldn't have picked up Joba Chamberlain. Set up men don't get enough innings to make that big a help and don't get saves

Rich Harden is a high risk, high reward kind of bet, but you got him late so it didn't cost you much.

see people dont think setup men make that big a difference, but i check my lineup pretty much everyday and switch my starters and people who arent playing in and out. having top notch relievers make a huge difference if you're willing to make an effort and can really help you get categories like whip, K's and era.

of course 1 bad outing in a week can hurt you a little but top notch set up men help alot. and joba will rack up the K's and he'll probably be a starter halfway through the season if the yanks are smart.

well i won my league and 20 bucks from 2 people, pretty much went coast to coast in the league and won in the playoffs too

here was my final roster:

C - ryan doumit - martinez sucked this year, waiver wire
1st base - prince fielder
2nd - mark derosa - ended up dropping kendrick to pick up a pitcher or something plus he kept getting hurt. couldve drafted kinsler to make this team even more dominant.
ss - carlos guillen
3rd - chipper jones - great year
OF - corey hart, josh hamilton, jason bay (nice bounceback year) also picked up milton bradley and jd drew

rest of bench were ian stewart and as of now randy wynn who i added late

pitching
johan santanna
tim lincecum
edinson volquez (picked up him and cueto when they were the big P's early in the year, stuck with volquez though)
rich harden - thankfully he was healthy most of the year
joba chamerlain
grant balfour
hong chi kuo
johnathan broxton
jose arredondo
carlos marmol
taylor buchholz
BJ ryan

erik bedard was a big flop this year and takashi saito got hurt this year too, the only real weakspot on my team was lack of saves, but it's worked for me for years load up on relievers and not just closers setup men are just as good if they can get you K's WHIP and ERA and K's/9

i doubt i'll have as good a pitching staff as i had this year though

wow your team is fairly strong from last year, especially with lincecum leading the way
