Sounds like they were after him before and JP just kind of gift wrapped him for them. I wish him the best and look forward to seeing him back at the dome when the Cubs com here for interleague play.

Great depth signing. Reed should fit very nicely in their outfield situation.

JP probably could've gotten at least a low-level prospect for him. Hell, Hendry gave multiple prospects for a month of Steve Trachsel.

Yeah, I really didn't get why JP released him and didn't trade him. We could have gotten at least something in return.

The Jays assistant GM was on the fan yesterday (before Reed was signed) and said that the Jays explored trade options before releasing him. Apparently, although other teams showed some interest, ultimately nobody wanted to make a trade given Reed's contract and back issues.

No he couldn't have. You don't think JP tried? You think he just through his hands up in the air and said 'why bother?' Reed's contract was just too large to find any takers.

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

Was this year a team option only for Johnson? I'm pretty sure he had a guarenteed contract which means the Jays are still on the hook for this year regardless of whether he plays for them or not.

He may have had a buyout clause, but that's probably at least 1/3 of the contract. If the Jays had paid a tad more, it would make financial sense for the Cubs to take his existing contract. And the Jays could've gotten some value.

I don't think in the long run this will be so bad. If Shannon doesn't perform, it will just make it easier to bring in Lind to be a regular on the team.
