Pedro, El Duque & Alou better be they're last year!

Post#1 » by nycefnl » Sat Apr 5, 2008 1:49 am

I've been fed up since last year and I thought Omar would've came to his senses in the off-season. These guys are always hurt and they are a waste of locker room space. Please Mets lets these guys go at the end of the year. Don't even consider having these guys back. It's just a waste of time. I don't even know why the New York papers bothered headlining that Pedro, Alou and El Duque were hurt. Like that's really news to any one. Pedro even when healthy is a 5 inning pither. Just not worth it. Alou swings at every pitch and his triples end up as singles and he can't score from 2nd on a double. El Duque will pitch for half the season and pitch a quarter of that half well. That's only 1/8 of a season of good pithcing. That's not worth it.

i completely agree. maybe if Pelfrey works out well, we could trade El Duque for some young pitching.

We're not going to get much for Duque in trade. and we're not going to get anything until he puts in a few quality starts. I think the best bet is to keep Duque this year, cause Pelfrey still can be sent back & forth to the minors. Duque can fill in this year if Pedro is out longer than 6 weeks.

and I think, next year, duque is gone. The mets were generous giving him a 2 year deal after 2006, that's enough. Duque's gone after this year.

Pedro - as far as next season, the issue with carrying a guy like Pedro on the roster is what happens if he gets hurt and what happens when he only pitches 5 innings. So, we need some inning eaters on this team. Santana, Maine, Perez aren't bad, is Pelfrey a 4th and Pedro a 5th?, or if Pelfrey isn't a sure thing, who do we sign?

I don't mind keeping Pedro, cause in a sense, Pedro for half a season is good when you have a young kig like Niess, who you might not want to start from Day 1.

Same with ALou - I wouldn't mind Alou next year, and we can platoon Pagan & F-Mart. But I want to see what ALou puts up this year first, before I say it's OK to bring him back 1 more year (same with Pedro).

on a Related note - I'm wondering if Castillo will make this list in the near future. :-)
Bill Clinton slept with an intern. A consenting adult and he got impeached and nearly disbarred as a result. Donald Trump went to parties showcasing underaged women brought in as basically prostitutes, and he says it's nothing.

Double standard?

we can keep them, they are fine.. but we must stop relying on them.
