Zimmerman -drop and don't look back.

Post#1 » by mt dew » Sun Apr 15, 2007 1:04 am

I've read that it might be better to try shopping Zimmerman around before dumping him, but that could take months. I don't have months to spare trying to trade him.

He's not an elite player....at least not yet. Not even close. Zimmerman is now 3-for his last 36. He's already wrecked several of my teams. Personally responsible for multiple head to head losses.

Even if he hits .400 the rest of the way, Zimmerman might only end up with 25 RBI because Washington is so bad. Many people said the Reds were dumb to trade away Lopez and Kearns for 2 unknown relievers last season, but who is laughing now? Neither Lopez or Kearns contributes anything. Dimitri Young is not good like his brother, he's fat, out of shape, and plays the worst defense you'll probably ever see at first base.

They're MLB's version of the Bad News Bears, except Zimmerman doesn't play the part of Kelly Leak well at all..... He might hit for a decent average in May, but won't score a lot of runs, won't drive in any, won't steal bases even though he'll find himself on first with 2 outs often..... If there is a reason to keep him, I don't know what it is. 3-for-36 is Gary Matthews Jr-like.

Zimmerman for Ray > sweet trade.

I dropped him in one league where I have Cabrera at 3rd, but still have Zimmerman on 2 rosters so I'm gonna try to get a closer out of the deal like you did.....I guess.

How can you not have a single viable starting pitcher, outfielder, first baseman, catcher, second baseman, and shortstop? -I doubt Detroit or KC can say they've ever fielded a team as bad as the 2007 Nats. I feel for Zimmerman. You know his average would be better if he had any teammates who could play. He can't be that motivated or having much fun at all, even though he's in his early 20s..... Even though he's an old-school type who would probably like to stay with one team throughout his career, I hope he sees the writing on the wall and gets out of dodge at the first chance.

Nats don't deserve Zimmerman. They couldn't even come up with a decent nickname.

Zimmerman isn't going to put up over a .860 OPS this year, but theres no way in hell you drop him. The kid is only 22 and has a very good amount of skill.

If you're in a 3 team non-keeper league maybe you should drop him, though.

That offense sucks, but I can't imagine he won't score 90, hit 25 HR and drive in at least 90 runs. Plus he's bound to steal 10-15 bases and hit about .300. He's legit. He drove in 110 in a similarly awful offense last year.

I guess it depends on lineup construction really. I don't follow Washington at all so I don't know who is hitting in front of Zimmerman. If it's Church and Lopez he should be able to knock in a bunch of runs. If it's Christian Guzman and anyone else, well, I don't know.

Nice trade.....you get the better player in Atkins. Why did the guy want 2 3B?

Listen to this guy. Lopez gets on base enough to help Zim's RBI too.

Drop Zimmerman? Calm down, it's only April. You wouldn't drop a player of this caliber unless he was injured.

Still think Zimmerman will turn it around?

He had a hard time hitting home runs in college but hit 20 last year, his rookie season.

Alfonso Soriano also hit 46 last year. That was after 2005 when every National player kept complaining that the fences were too far out.

Every time I watched on TV last year RFK looked like a little league park. This season, it looks bigger.

Putting 2 and 2 together we can easily figure out the fences were moved in last season, and the public wasn't aware or it would've made Sportscenter, plus this season they were moved back out to accomodate how terrible Washington is. Zimmerman is hitting in the #3 hole....in front of Dmitri Young and behind Felipe Lopez and Rafael Belliard. Lopez and Belliard are about as intimidating to pitchers as tweety bird was to Sylvester and Young is a "recovering" alcoholic.

Zimmerman hates playing on such a bad team.....you can see it on his face. I always hated playing on bad teams, too... It's no fun. Hard to stand out if you're unselfish...... He'll do the little things on defense but their offense is so bad it's hard to even feel sorry for them.

I could pick up Iwamura and he could be the only 3B on my roster, and stay injured for another month and he'd still probably have a better season offensively batting 6th in Tampa. I hate to cut Zimmernan and should've thought better than to use a high draft pick on him in any draft because he's a National.

Hopefully somebody else uses a waiver claim on him in each league that I cut him. See ya, Ryan.

Certainly you have the right to your own opinion, but I don't think anybody else shares your view that Zim is quite so value-less. Sure, a slow start is frustrating, but it's something you deal with in order to get the end return.

Teahen gets the job done.

Post#12 » by mt dew » Fri May 4, 2007 4:35 pm

Since I picked up Teahen and dropped Zimmerman a week ago:

Teahen: 7-24 (.292) 3 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 3 SB
Zimmerman: 4-23 (.174) 0 R, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 SB

Clearly, in any rotisserie league Zimmerman is not even worth owning. Not even when you have 3 extra games to use a third baseman and your regular 3B has the day off on an upcoming Thursday while the Nationals play. Get somebody else to fill in.

Washington is worse than the 2003 Tigers who won 5 of their last 6 games and still finished with 119 losses.....Dmitri Young was probably drunk when he said Washington is better.

Always pull against organizations like Washington and Pittsburgh who are only out to make money and not compete.

You're just flat out wrong. A talented young, player like Zimmerman just doesn't stay in a slump like this forever. Would you drop David Wright if you had him on your team and Mark Teahen was sitting there in the FA pool?
