But Gross' were better.

Want stats?

Gabe Gross is now hitting a whopping .091 for the season
Kapler is hitting .438

Yeah what a whopping sample size. Let's see who's hitting better against righties at the end of the year. Gross could easily have two hits today.

Barely better.

And we're not looking at who is going to hit better in the long run. These guys won't see the field anymore within a month anyways so we're looking for the guy who's going to produce the most now, which is obviously Kapler. The fact that you're lobbying for Gross to get playing time over anybody at this point is laughable.

Well we can't win every game. But, sucks to lose when everything goes wrong. Bush was bad, McDung and Turnblow were worse and our offense looked bad. Prince really needs to pull his head out of his ass right now. He needs to stop swinging at garbage. Also, Corey Hart hasn't done much since the Cub series. At least Braun homered.

How is 24 points in OBP and 35 points in SLG% barely better?

And again. If we're going off of who is swinging the bat better now then Counsell should be playing for Hardy, Dillon should be playing for Weeks and Kapler should be playing for Hart when Gwynn gets back.

Do you not get it? Playing the hot hand is exactly what Yost did with Gwynn and Hart last year and it completely back fired on him.

You don't go with the "hot hand" when both are bench players because the hot hitting can stop at any time. Especially when the bench player that you want to be getting the AB's is worse in the platoon split than the guy who is actually playing.

On a related note. Kapler looked really gritty in that at bat.

I'll take Luis Pena and his nasty sinker over McDung right now. Even though Pena could use more seasoning he's most likely better than McDung.

That tends to happen when you put in Seth McDung.

Wow you really do not understand at all.

Playing the hot hand between Kapler and Gross is NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, like playing Gwynn over Hart, Dillon over Weeks, or any of the other downright stupid analogies you just used.

The reason that playing Gwynn over Hart backfired last year is all because Hart was supposed to be an every day player, so playing the hot hand over him completely took him out of his rhythm and he struggled for a good stretch of the season as a result.

Neither Kapler nor Gross will ever be everyday players on this team unless about 4-5 outfielders suddenly drop dead. They are simply filling in until our starting center fielder is back in the everyday lineup. Do you understand how that is different?

I'll put this in layman's terms... Playing a bench guy over an everyday starter because the bench guy has a hot bat is stupid. Playing a bench guy over another bench guy because bench guy #1 has a hot bat and you are just trying to buy time for your regular starter to get back is intelligent.

And what a hypocrite you are for nitpicking Kapler's one at-bat tonight after you criticized me for the small sample size I used to demonstrate that Kapler is swinging the bat well right now and that Gross is not.

Sorry for being a condescending jerk.

Playing the hot hand means going with batters who are hitting better. So according to your logic whoever is swinging the bat better should play and whoever is not should sit. That's not specific to starters vs bench players and bench players vs bench players.

The reason that playing Gwynn over Hart backfired last year is all because Hart was supposed to be an every day player, so playing the hot hand over him completely took him out of his rhythm and he struggled for a good stretch of the season as a result.

No he played well when Ned actually pulled his head out of his ass and played Hart. He rode the "hot hand" Gwynn for a month taking playing time away from a player who is very likely to perform better than Gwynn. That is my point. Gross is very likely to perform better against right handed pitchers than Kapler.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW?
