Rios's worth?

Post#1 » by Ryanz24 » Sun Apr 15, 2007 5:26 pm

Hey guys - with Rios's huge start - batting .350- ten game hit steak, waht do you think his value is at? Not that I want to to trade him - think we will regret it. But if it comes to a point where we have to...what can we get?

It's going to be the exact same situation as with Orlando Hudson ... He has a great year and his market value shoots up ... But "O-Dog" wasn't a "Riccardi guy" so he got traded ... The same will happen with Alex Rios ... He's a keeper in my opinion, will likely command 7-9 million/year ... I'm not conviced Riccardi will anti up.

I don't think I would anti up to 7-9 mil a year for Rios either. Unless he begins to produce even more, which I do think will happen. But I doubt he will make 9 million when/if the Jays resign him.

He's a young, inexpensive, five-tool player with star potential.

He could have been flipped for Brad Penny but JP wanted more. There were also rumours of Lieber for Rios and he countered with Hamels, so JP obviously thinks really highly of Rios.

And that's fine, he is arbitration eligible for probably a couple of more seasons, so we wont have to pay him a longterm deal for a little while unless JP gets one done early for cheap.
